Found a lump in breast..........

I have found a very hard, painless lump in my right breast tonight. It isn't on the armpit side but about an inch from the nipple. It is around the size of a grape but not perfectly round sort of oblong type shape....

Thats not good is it? i will go G.P on Monday.

Any experiences of this type of lump?

Probably nothing but I would get it checked out regardless. Better to be safe and all that.

Pop and see your GP, it could be a number of things, a fat lump/blocked duct, it's best to get it checked out.

GypsyMoth · 14/03/2010 00:13

A long time ago I had a lump near the nipple......pea shaped, which turned out to be an ingrowing hair. But agree could be blocked duct. Does the nipple look normal? Any other changes?

I do have 2 small lumps that has grown at the side of the nipple.

The lump itself is hard and not directly next to the nipple. Totally embarrassed to go the G.P but know i will have to....

It is in the breast tissue, away from the nipple (hard to explain).

I had the same problem a few months ago. Mine was a big hard lump on the breat below the nipple cosest to my chest. I went to the gp who referred me for tests, i had a scan and a tissue sample taken (very easily done) and the results came back and it said it was a collection of cycst. They could either remove them or leave then if they wernt bothering me. I often found mine felt tender around the same time as my period.

Thanks everyone i do feel better about it now

I will go tomorrow though to the G.P or nurse.

How did you get on? I found a lump last week which felt hard but moveable. I have naturally lumpy breasts anyway but this one felt larger. I am waiting for my period to start but it seems to have shrunk in size.
Apparently over 80% of all breast lumps are non-cancerous which is reassurring to know.
God luck at the docs. X

pucca let us know how you are. I really hope the Dr was helpful and reassuring, as it probably is nothing serious. I've just found a small hard lump in a similar place. I have an appointment with GP on Thursday. Have decided not to worry for now, though that's easier said than done.

Well, GP said he could feel a thickening/lump and wanted me to wait and go back in 4 weeks (to allow to hormones or something) my parents have me on their benenden health thing so i am booked in to see a consultant tomorrow for a check and ultrasound.

I have since found another lump (in same boob) similar, rock hard and deep.

Will let you know what happens. Hopefully will have my mind put to rest.

pucca, that sounds positive to me as from what I've read a lot of lumps can disappear after your period, so maybe that's what your GP's thinking it is. Must be scary though. I've had to move my appointment to next week. Really annoying to have to wait. Four weeks to you I'm sure must seem an age.

pucca · 18/03/2010 08:26

Thanks Smee fingers crossed!

4 weeks would have driven me crazy i think! Good luck with your appointment, let me know how you get on too. I will let you know what has happened when i am back later.

I am back to update on what happened with my appointment.

The consultant found the lump without me having to point it out, he did an ultrasound and took some pics, and did a biopsy.

He said to him it looks benign (sp?) but until results are back to confirm cannot be sure.

I have to wait a few days for results.
