I"m so nervous! I've been taking a hideous INDUSTRIAL laxatives since yesterday- awful. and havent been alowed to eat since 2pm yesterday- starved.

I'm going to have a whole bunch of tests today (3pm) for all my IBS like symptoms. The worst being the dreaded Colonoscopy and the gastroscopy!

Does anyone know what being sedated is like? I'd rather be knocked out tbh.

Apparently i'll have a lot of wind after- hubby will be impressed!

When I was sedated for this procedure, I was pretty out of it. And have no real memory of it. I've also had a sigmoidoscopy unsedated and that wasn't too bad. Everyone is very kind and you'll probably get a nurse to hold your hand throughout. You will be fine, - there is a bit of cramping/wind afterwards.

KurriKurri · 10/03/2010 14:11

Meant to add good luck

ArtyJennie · 11/03/2010 09:19

Thanks for the reassuring words. You were right. I quite enjoyed the sedation- lol. Had pethadine and valluim. I dont really remember the procedure- but am glad its all over. They even gave me a photo- lovely

Oh Arty! Sorry but the thought of your souvenir photo in on of those cardboard frames, like you get when you've been on a rollercoaster, sat on your windowsill - its really tickled me!

Pethedine and vallium, sounds fabulous!

Hope everything works out and you get some good results.

ArtyJennie · 11/03/2010 10:23

haha- It was rather odd getting a pic- perhaps I should put it on the mantel piece in the dining room - a good talking point for dinner guests! lol

Am getting the results on Mon 22nd but there were no lumps or bumps so thats a good start

Go on, do it! I dare you!
Get a really lovely frame for it too!

Fingers crossed for your results x

i had the down the throat one and up the bum one one after the other. they stupidly dont tell you that you will wretch like a convulsion throughout the one down the throat. also because i was young early 30s they gave me no sedative and so when they did the bum one it became so painful that i kind of held my breath couldn;t speak and they stopped the procedure. if they had let me just shift my lower body a bit the air that was trapped and blowing up a particular bit of my intestine would have shifted and the could have carried on. it seemed antiquated the way they dont allow you to move during the procedure like old child birthing methods

KurriKurri · 14/03/2010 22:42

Glad it went well Jennie. Best of luck for results.

navyeyelasH · 14/03/2010 22:54

rabbit54, they stupidly dont tell you that you will wretch like a convulsion throughout the one down the throat - I thought this was just me! I thought I was being dramatic. did you just have it numbed?

rabbit54 · 15/03/2010 21:42

yep navyeyelasH, when it was happen i became concerned during the procedure that it was going wrong because of my reaction of convulsing. Did they gently hold your legs down on the bum one too?

rabbit54 · 15/03/2010 21:44

p.s. yes, navy they numbed the back of my throat. A friend nurse suggested they didn't sedate me so i could alert them if they were hurting/ tearing me. also, its cheaper in after care

navyeyelasH · 16/03/2010 08:32

Rabbit so weird - have a look at my thread here

I thought something was going wrong too, they didn't hold my legs down thankfully but my top leg was sort of kicking up into he air.

During the bum one they did hold my leg, and like you it felt like if I could just shift a bit the air would escape and it wouldn't hurt so much. It was only on the bends it hurt for me. Maybe you can't move as if you move too much it might damage something?

rabbit54 · 16/03/2010 09:10

The air got trapped on the bend with me and it was the pain of that made me involuntary hold my breath and so the nurse stopped the procedure. I cant see how my lovely soft pink inner tissue or anus is going to hurt their stainless steel shower hose. And the little eye/ camera is durable. Just bad method.

rabbit54 · 16/03/2010 09:13

p.s. The farting afterwards went on for hours and I wish i had been on a night out with friends so i could have made it humorous.
