I have had kind of crampy lower pains but no burning when going or anything and not often going, anyhow i went to docs on Mon and he dipped my wee and said slight infection and gave 3 day thing of trimothorpin. Today its crampy more than ever so i rang to make an appt for fri in case no better and said that my sample had come back clear??? I have now asked for earlier appt and got in this am - im really working myself up tbh.

If the sample has come back clear for a bladder infection then it could some residual post-infection soreness. Or it could be that the doctor will have to consider other possible causes for the discomfort. Medicine is often a process of elimination, especially when symptoms are a little vague or common to more than one condition. Don't work yourself up.

I have been this morning thanks chil1234, my sample was clear again despite the pain being worse than ever - i have to go back for some swabs this pm and am awaiting an ultrasound appointment. He has no idea whats causing the problem and has sent me home with a sicknote for work (that'll go down well!), co-codomol and laxatives. Trying not to work self up and failing.

They're working through the options, don't worry. Treat condition A... if that doesn't work, test for condition B and treat that. And so on. NB If it was very serious they'd have sent you to hospital straight away rather than ask you to go home and wait for an appointment. Adding stress-related tension probably won't help a lot so try to avoid that.... enjoy the time off work, take a hot bath, maybe apply a hot-water bottle to the area, eat soup, drink plenty of fluids, take the painkillers & chill out on the sofa.

any other symptoms beside the lower abdominal cramping? does the cramping get worse when you go to the loo?

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 10/03/2010 16:09

no cramping doesnt get worse when go to loo - i pass as normal but bladder does feel constant pressure like a babies head is baring down on it like end of preg. Its kind of in waves more in the middle though perhaps more right sided at a push - right now i have the cramping but no back ache but sensation in my weeing mechanism as if the pressure is telling me to go. I took some co codomal - boy they whack you out! They have done a high swab of cervix.

have you been checked for a prolapse? any mention of conditions like endometriosis/POS?

purplepeony · 11/03/2010 08:42

Please see the link I posted- if you haven't already- and look at the interstitial cystits threads. Hopefully this is not what you have- any bladdder infection can take a while to calm down.

Bladder pain after an infection can be caused by this- int he meantimes, avoid any bladder irritants- including tea, coffee, alcohol, fruit juices, fizzy drinks- esp. coke- and spicy foods.
This will give your bladder a chance to calm down.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 11/03/2010 08:50

Hiya i am guessign when she did my high swab yesterday a prolapse would be evident, I have read the link thanks and will bare that in mind but rule it out slightly as dont have the urgency and frequenct . This morning it just feels like bladder pressure with slight twingeyness. I will chuck my coffee and strictly have clear stuff today.

He did mention endometiosis, ovarian cysts and sorry i dont know what POS is?

polycystic ovarian syndrome.

see how it goes... cranberry tablets and lots of clear fluids. if it's not improving, definately go back for further tests.

i get recurring UTIs and have endo and sometimes they feel similar... tis tricky.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 11/03/2010 09:53

thanks all

ffs really hurty today - co codomol not cutting the mustard just making me feel spacey - back at docs at 10.10 - really pissed off - seeing the lady doctor at least. I feel like such a drama queen. FIrst sample back aagin and clear, high swab not back yet. Would they not give me some anti b's anyway to clear anyhting if there was anything - not that im keen to part with another £7!

Please have another look at the COB site and maybe post there- you do not need to have pain, frequncy and urgency to have IC- one of these is enough.

I am NOT saying you have but many people do find their bladders painful after an infection and if you take steps now to calm it down it migh help a lot.

One of the treatments given for painful bladder syndrome is the drug amitriptyline- your dr can give you that even though you have not had a formal diagnosis of PBS.

If it continues then you should ask for a referral to a urologist and the COB message boards can help suggest ones in your area.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 12/03/2010 18:07

Thanks i will defo have a look in more detail. However i was admitted to hospital this am following my gp appointment - thankfully i am back home now. I had an ultrasound on my cervix and ovaries and there was some fluid which was indicative of a burst cyst and also my water sample there came back positive so i have some anti biotics and various painkillers. Am back on Tuesday when hopeully things will have eased.
