I rang my GP today to say I cannot face getting the mirena put back in after what happened to me. I just cant take the risk and am so scared of anyone doing anything 'down there'.

I asked her about Implanon and she said it would be great for me, just as effective as the mirena and long lasting.

I do not want to gain weight (didnt with mirena) or get pregnant, its absolutely not an option I would have a breakdown, I can never be pg again

dh wont consider a vasectomy atm, and Im not up for further surgery.
I came off the pill because of migraines. So not much left for me to try

sounds like implanon would suit you well. my SIl had one put in a few weeks back and it went well (apart from fact that it turned out she was pregnant when it was put in so had to be taken out again oops)

I had Implanon and it didn't suit me so had it taken out. Obv you may be totally different, some people are fine with it and you don't know til you try.

My one piece of advice would be to check how to get it removed. At my surgery only one GP is qualified to take them out and you have to book a massively long appointment with her so it's really difficult to book one within the system. Several times I called only for reception to tell me no appointments were available and they couldn't look more than 2 weeks ahead.

In the end it took months to get it removed which is frustrating and depressing if you're experiencing negative effects.

profyaffle what side effects did you experience?

Hi

I had Implanon a few years ago and no real side effects for me except for the nightmare I had with my periods. Some people are very lucky and it either doesn't affect them, or they stop having periods altogether, however it was not to be for me unfortunately. I ended up having constant, but minor bleeding pretty much permanently after about the first month (sorry if TMI!). It got to the stage where they put me back on the pill just to regulate my periods - sort of defeats the object!

The other thing to consider is the scarring. Although it is not bad (maybe a couple of mm), but for every implant you have, you will have 2 scars.

On the other hand, I didn't get pregnant so it did the job it was supposed to I also didn't put on any weight.

Good luck!

Similar to Charlie, I had constant light bleeding plus feeling PMTish and crampy pretty much all time too. While I was still bf dd2 it was fine but started to wrong when I'd stopped.

I had an implanon a few years ago and it was really good for me. I had no periods at all, no side effects and our local family planning centre will remove and insert them without too many issues.

I am on my second - first one (about five years ago) was rubbish. I had loads of bleeding and was really grumpy - I ended up having it taken out after about a year. However, I decided to give it another shot, after forgetting to take the pill for an entire week while on holiday (it had fallen out of my sponge bag and I just forgot all about it...). This one has been better - had quite a lot of bleeding (but light) the first few months, but has settled down now. I do still probably bleed for more of the time than I did on the pill (but not necessary consistantly if that makes sense), which is a bit of a pain - but I can't forget to take it! The one thing I do hate is not knowing when I'll be bleeding - I am getting married in May and can't decide whether should pop Mooncup in for the day just in case of "blood and big ivory dress" issues. Also worried about it in context of honeymoon. Sorry, prehaps, TMI...
