Infection? Very painful finger/fingernail

On thursday I was searching for my keys in my handbag and stuck an unidentified sharp object under my index finger nail. I swore and thought nothing of it.

Have woken up today to a very swollen finger, hot, painful to touch, main pain is the nail. So, am guessing infection. No visable signs.

How can I treat this at home? Cannot go to the out if hours drs for a swollen finger, those appointments need to save for ill people... But it really hurts!
