if you leave it, it remains sterile and the blood will reabsorb.

(If your finger swells up massively or turns blue go to A&E though.)

I did this just before Christmas. I left well alone. It hurt so much I got it x rayed about 10 days later. Then, one day i was sitting at work, something went pop and it went back to normal.

I did it at lunch time and it's not blue or swollen it just looks like I have a purple jelly tot stuck on my finger .

DH has come home and said "pop it" - I thought I'd consult the great wisdom of mumsnet.
