Can I use groundnut oil instead of olive oil for my blocked ear?
I've run out of olive and it's driving me mad!

my doctor told me that the only thing you should put in your ear is your elbow.

Why do you want to put oil in it?

It's blocked. It happens quite often.
They won't syringe it unless I've done a few days of putting warm olive oil in. I'm desperate!!!

My nan always used to pour warmed castor oil in our ears when we had earache. I can't remember if it helped, but i am still alive. I think it is the "warm" rather than the exact type of oil that does it. I would say groundnut oil is fine.

So us that a yay or a nay?
Why not supersal?

A yay I think. Engine oil, maybe not but most vegetable oils should be fine.

Fruitbatlings · 03/03/2010 19:33

Are you sure....?
I'm all worried now as supersal has said no....
What's the worse that'll happen?

DH sometimes uses olive oil from the chemist (purified olive oil) - usually says olive oil BP on the bottle. Alternatively a sodium bicarbonate solution - again from the chemists using purified water etc.
But he only does this on doctors orders when he is getting terrible ear ache and they are going to syringe the ears.
