What IS this? v heavy bleeding

Sorry this may be tmi for some people.

My periods are usually medium-heavy, not usually painful and nothing I can't deal with in terms of flow. I have a copper coil, but it's been in for over a year.

This month, it's been incredibly heavy - even super tampons don't last long - and much much more painful than usual. It's literally pouring out of me. If I sit on the loo, when I get up the bowl is red. It's the third day and no sign of letting up (my periods usually start to tail off after 2). I feel completely and utterly drained, was unable to do anything today and spent the entire time sleeping.

I'm a bit scared about how heavy it is and that it hasn't stopped yet. I'm thinking I might get an emergency appt tomorrow and try to get something prescribed. It couldn't be an early miscarriage, could it? Period was not late particularly, but physical PMT symptoms were a LOT worse than usual - breasts really aching, tired, feeling faint and sick. Or is it just a hormonal blip?

Thanks

probably a good idea to get an appointment. i dont think an early miscarriage would be much different from your usual period. hopefully it is a hormonal blip, but for your own peace of mind get it checked out

If it's much heavier than usual see your dr- but periods are weird things and what you are experiencing may be normal.

You might like to do a PG test as well just to be sure- though with that amount of bleeding it's unlikely anything could be left- sorry, but you know what I mean.

Bleeding stopped on the Wed, but continued to get spotting for another 3/4 days, which never happens. Am going to the GP to get some tranexamic (sp?) acid next week - do you think I should mention it? I guess there is no way of telling what caused it now, is there? Bit worried that coil may not be working if it was an early mc or something.
