sore throat

I have had a sore throat on and off since the beginning of January, with, through various phases, either a cough or runny nose, or now just an incredibly sore throat. Will this ever go away? Has anyone else been experiencing this? Is this just a particularly bad winter for these kinds of infections or is there something wrong with me? Any experiences would be welcome.

I suggest you start taking multi vitamins and eating plenty of fruit and veg, Maybe its just that your immune system is being abit lazy?

Ive been in horrendous pain since thursday with a sore throat, only I have gunk all over my tonsils, body aches, headaches and have now started being sick

That sounds awful loopy. Hope you're feeling better by now. Similar gunk here.

I've been of course googling this as my sore throat keeps goign on and on - some days worse than others. I am beginning to wonder whether it could be laryngitis just from straining my voice. I am prone to loosing my voice and although I haven't lost it this time, I do wonder whether its the talking loud all the time with the kids that is making this sore throat persist. Has anyone had laryngitis? Can it cause a persistent (moderate) sore throat and drryness? I am trying to be very quiet to see if that works - my kids were very surprised at how soft sopken I was this morning as I tried to rush them out of the house to go to school. Strangely, it got them out the door much faster! Go figure..Any advice or expereinces would be welcome.

I have finally decided to get a doctor's appointment. Booked it. In the meantime, I could do with any opinions on white tongue. I just noticed my tongue is quite white, especially towards the back. Can this be a sign of a throat infection? I read it can be a sign of oral thrush, and have just ingested a canesten oral capsule to see what happends. I had a it a few hours ago - no effect yet. I am a bit concerned though as I keep reading that oral thrush is usually the sign of an underlying more serious health condition. Has anyone had this? Can it be the result of other throat infections? This sore throat is really getting me down..
