Think ds's grommet is coming out............................

Nursery have just called, is ear is weeping (has been for a few days) and they can see something white and plastic in the ear canal. Have appointment at Doctors for 5.10pm.

Anyone any experience of this? At last visit to ENT specialist he said this particular ear was still not stable - will they have to pit another grommet in?

I think grommets are supposed to fall out in time. With any luck it will already have served its purpose. If his ear is weeping though I would suspect an ear infection which may need some treatment. Good luck.

Yes he does already have an infection - he's got anti biotic ear drops for it.

The ENT consultant said he ear is not stable, so although I know they are supposed to come out, will they put one in again?

24 hour monitering of her breathing, gosh. Hope it doesn't come to her having tonsils and adenoids out - that's not very pleasant at all. But if it will help what can you do?

Am off to pick ds up now.

they are supposed to fall out. ds's fell out almost one year later and the other about 1 month ago. but, if there is stuff seeping out, mor than likely there would still be in, it lets the puss come out.

I've seen the white tubes in dd's ears and they confirmed later that her grommits had fallen out and were sitting in the ear canal. We had a second set put in but only after going though all the hearing tests again.

When one of her second grommits came out they said wait and see if she has problems she should be alright with just the one. I would say the locam GP we saw when this one came out was worse than useless

northerner · 14/07/2005 09:17

Yep, GP I swa last night was pretty useless too. She was insisiting on prescribing amoxicilan (sp?) for his infection, when ds's ENT consultant has written to them say he must be prescribed ear drops.

Grommet has come out, infection still there

Will see what consultant says at next appointment.

Was suprised at the size of the grommet - bigger than I inagined.

Isn't it amazing how many Gps insist on prescribing oral antibiotics for this rather than the drops adviced by the ENT team?

northerner · 14/07/2005 10:39

Completeley baffles me.

They have been in for just over a year. So quite a long time I beleive.

Next ENT appt is not till January 2006, but GP will try and bring it forward.

Hope all works out for your dd.
