I have hideous tooth ache. I have taken my full quota of ibuprofen and co codamol for 24 hours. I have an appointment for 12:30 to see the dentist. So long as I leave four hours between doses would it be the end of the world if I carried on taking them. I dont think I can hang on much longer.

The full quote for ibuprofen in 24 hours is much higher than it says on the packet!! A doc or dentist can prescribe up to 2400mg a day - taken either as 3x800mg or 4x600mg.

Don't take any more co-codamol. But if you are under this dose for ibuprofen, this once it shouldn't hurt, though it might give you indigestion/upset stomach.

(saying this as have had this level of ibuprofen prescribed often for a health prob I have).

Thanks weegiemum. Could I take plain paracetamol as well?

I wouldnt od on the co-codamol. I am not a dr at all or medically trained, but if I was utterly utterly desperate I might take an extra ibuprofen. (which is probably utterly wrong)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2010 09:05

there you go - cross post with weegiemum. no to the extra paracetemol though.
Have you got any cloves in the pantry?

MegGriffin · 18/02/2010 09:07

I might have some cloves oybk, I will look. I will have some more ibuprofen and hopefully that will keep me going. Thank you

Meg - no, don't take paracetamol as well as the cocodamol as that has paracetamol in already and you don't want to have too much paracetamol.

Sounds just like the state I was in when something similar happened to me. Bad timing and unfortunate result means I've ended up allergic to paracetamol, codiene and ibruprofen which isn't particularly helpful - but I think that was just combination of circumstances - not something that is at all likely to happen to you!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2010 09:12

good luck with it.

MegGriffin · 18/02/2010 09:12

It must be awful for you not to be able to take those pain killers mistle.

Don't take anything else with paracetamol in it - you are at risk of liver damage if you do.

When you see the dentist, ask about painkillers as you might still be sore after you are seen - they can prescribe stronger anti-inflammtories.

Its not great!

Currently waiting to be tested to see if there's something I could take for at least muscular pain - but daren't try it on my own in case I end up needing to be treated for any sideeffects...

Luckily, alchohol not affected
