I'm STILL really ill.

I am going to the GP tomorrow, I have been dying rather unwell since Monday. Even with paracetamol and Ibuprofen, I can't get my temperature below 100. It is spiking at 103.5 when the pills wear off. I have what looks like a viral rash on my legs and stomach. I have had a 'tight' chest since Monday, and all day today have been coughing up vile yellowy-green phlem (sorry for TMI). I feel like my brain has melted, and I'm not able to sleep for more than 3 hrs in a day, haven't slept a full night since Sunday night. . I feel ILL. And I can't do anything about it until the GP's opens at 8.30am tomorrow. I want to feel better now, I've had enough of feeling rotten now. What is the GP likely to be able to do? I am allergic to quite a lot of antibiotics, the only one they can ive me for chest infections is one that starts with 'M' or one that starts with 'C' (brain not retrieving the OK ones atm), but I have had 4 chest infections this winter, and each time I've had the AB's, they've taken longer to work. And will the AB's take care of the brain-melting temperature, or would that be viral?

perhaps to lessen exposure you should get the gp to come to you?

get well soon

CardyMow · 18/02/2010 01:35

roffle at the GP doing a house call! They haven't done those in my town for anyone over 2yo for 10yrs now. tbh, I'd just like to be able to sleep!

sounds nasty, you poor thing.

Not sure what GP can do, but do know paracetamol is a wonder drug so keep taking it and good luck. Sending you sleepy vibes

probono · 18/02/2010 02:29

Sweat it out. Stop taking the paracetamol unless you go up to 104.

CardyMow · 18/02/2010 03:00

I can't really do that, if my temperature gets to 104, I always have a massive seizure (I have bad epilepsy). Hence trying to keep my temp below 102. (not working though!)

mrspoppins · 18/02/2010 03:05

Use a fan if you have one around in Winter but not directly onto you as that actually increases your temp as your body thinks your skin is cold...point it into room to keep air temp lower.
Light clothing...
Fluids ++
cool bath
poor poor you...hope you feel better soon...

probono · 18/02/2010 03:14

Oh Loudlass I'm so sorry. I hope you get some relief soon. I do apologise, I didn't realise your underlying problem.

CardyMow · 18/02/2010 09:56

S'ok. Have doctor appointment at 11.40. Getting a taxi there even though its only round the corner. And I havent had a cigarette for 10 hours now I know its why I keep getting chest infections am giving up from yesterday night.

Hae been to the doctors hae got cefalexin ab's (250mg qod)and some nicotine patches. I still haven't had a fag, and I'm actually surprised at how well I'm doing with that. I genuinely feel too ill to want one, and the patch seems to be stopping the nastiness. Although all the coughing seems to have killed my pelic floor. .

CardyMow · 18/02/2010 23:38

still ill, still coughing, but on the plus side, still not smoking!!

OP posts:
mrspoppins · 19/02/2010 05:51

well done...I've never smoked but know how hard losing weight is and it must be the same sort of battle so keep winning!

ppeatfruit · 19/02/2010 08:04

poor loudlass Are you eating at all? try fruit it will help with the immune system and help remove the toxins from the fags. Echinacea is the most wonderful natural AB.

You need to take more than it says on the bottle though.
Try this exercise; breathe in through the nose hold for up to 10 counts at the same time tighten yr pelvic floor. then release at the same time!1

kelp and the best plain bacterial yoghurt is also wonderful for replenishing the good bacteria in yr. gut. The ABs will have killed them. Good luck

CardyMow · 19/02/2010 09:51

Have spoken to the GP over the phone this morning as the AB's weren't helping, still running a temperature that's a minimum of 100.5 - it's not a chest infection, he thinks I've got pneumonia, but not badly enough to go into hospital. Wondered why I was throwing up and nauseous as well. I am eating, I'm still hungry, it's keeping anything down that's the problem. I feel really useless as I've not really moved off the sofa since Monday! STILL not smoking though! I started when I was 11, and the only times I haven't smoked is when I've been pg. So I'm shocked by how well I'm doing. Haha at breathing well enough to do those pelvic floor excercises at the moment though! I think I'm just going to get some tena lady or something until I can BREATHE again!! .

sorry to hear that loudlass,I wish you better I know that sounds weak. Don't want to panic you
but shouldn't any pneumonia be treated in hosp?

3littlefrogs · 19/02/2010 13:15

If you are vomiting you might not be absorbing the antibiotics. You should be re-assessed and may need intravenous antibiotics.

claig · 19/02/2010 13:26

Loudlass, have you got any garlic in the house. It is a wonder cure for most things

"Garlic is considered as an amazing treatment for those who have pneumonia if only it would be given in ample quantities during the treatment. Aside from it ability to bring down body temperature, it is also capable of toning down respiration and pulse in just 48 hours. You can choose to apply a paste of garlic externally on the patient?s chest which has beneficial results for it serves as an irritant. This is one of the efficient pneumonia home remedies. "

you could try the above, or drinking garlic tea (just chop up some garlic and put hot water over it and stir etc.), or if you can eat it that is also good

probono · 19/02/2010 13:45

Loudlass it sounds utterly, utterly dire. Have you got anyone who can pick up some megadose (500mg or 1000mg) vit C for you. Forget your rubbish 10mg redoxon or glass of juice, you need a cannonball. Agree about the vomiting and ABs.

Shoshe · 19/02/2010 14:13

Loudlass I had pneumonia back in November (result of Swine Flu) and was hospitalised and given intravenous AB's, I had been like you for weeks before hand(actually the doctros thought I had had pneumonia for about 10 dys before my lung collapsed and went into hospital)

Nothing I was given worked until I went in, had had AB's by mouth, temp never stabalised and cough was so bad I just never slept.

Would go back to the doctor.

CardyMow · 25/02/2010 23:54

Quick update-have been in hospital with 'proper' pneumonia and a slightly collapsed lung for the last week, will post my hospital diary here tomorrow when I've slept (am going to bed in a sec). I'm home on steroid tablets for the next 2 weeks, am on total bed rest, have a bed downstairs in the front room as I can't manage the stairs, if anyone is desperate for more info, there's a thread or 2 in chat, and one in special needs children. Will update properly tomorrow. The docs think this has been brewing since I had swine flu in July, as I've not been right since, and have been on constant ab's for 5 throat infections from July-the end of October, then 4 chest infections from the start of November till now, and now pneumonia. I have some permanent lung damage and have been ticked off by the hospital for not looking after myself as well as I do the dc's....

As soon as I read your OP I thought of pneumonia and certainly thought you should already be in hospital. What a horrible run of it you've had. Any time in hospital is miserable so at least you're home now and can work on getting better still.

Assume you are still keeping off the fags? If so you have done really well being a smoker from such a young age. Keep going with that no matter what else happens - you will be doing yourself such a favour. Take care.

CardyMow · 26/02/2010 15:50

Yup still off the fags. Am on super strength (21mg) patches though, and even they're not warding off all the cravings. Wish my GP had thought of pneumonia....Am hovering on 2 threads in chat, my own 'I'm back' thread, and psychomum5's 'Brian' thread. I will get around to posting my diary soon.
