Which is the fastest way to get rid of this beast that has arrived on my face? I have never had one before

Do you have any Earl Grey tea?

If hold a cooling tea bag on it for about ten minutes at a time, that can stop it in it's tracks.

MerlinsBeard · 13/02/2010 14:13

NO just tesco/tetleys here

SawneyBeane · 13/02/2010 14:22

Ok, how about an ice cube?

Holding one of those on should help.

MerlinsBeard · 13/02/2010 14:30

OOh will try it thank you.

Would fucidin cream work? DS2 has had shingles recently (prob where this coldsore has come from) and has some fucidin cream left. I can't get to chemist for zovirax. I just don't want it to spread!

Sorry to say it but Zovirax is the ONLY thing that has ever worked for me. Don't know about the Fucidin - does it have Acyclovir in it?(the active ingredient in Zovirax) - if so it should work.

MerlinsBeard · 13/02/2010 14:52

Ithought someone would say that.

Sorry...long term sufferer here!

MerlinsBeard · 13/02/2010 14:58

no its ok, i appreciate (sp?) it!

OP posts:
aristocat · 13/02/2010 15:01

mom i dont think Fucidin would help, sorry.
we use that for DSs eczema when it flares up.

you could put some toothpaste on it

MerlinsBeard · 13/02/2010 15:06

we have some zovirax suspension but that's all.

bummer.

Calyx · 13/02/2010 15:16

Zovirax ALWAYS makes mine spread and burst. I tried to think it was making it go quicker but no... Had them for a full ten days. I didn't use Zovirax for the last one and it was gone in a week! Sympathy for you, coldsores are horrible.

BrigitBigKnickers · 13/02/2010 15:34

The very best cream you can buy which works very fast is Fenestil- it has an ingredient called pencyclovir which is MUCH more effective than acyclovir.

Also see if you can get hold of a cold sore zapper (I think they sell them in Boots)

BrigitBigKnickers · 13/02/2010 15:41

Oh and you can't get coldsores from shingles- they are a different virus.

Cold sores are herpes simplex and chicken pox/ shingles are herpes zosta
