Fluorescent yellow clear snot

I've had a rotten cold with a LOT of sinus pain and horrid yellow/green bloody snot for about a week. I'm feeling much better now, but my bogey has turned an astonishingly bright yellow. It's clear, like gelatinous hi-lighter pen ink.

I was thinking it's some weird post-sinus infection thing, but having googled I'm slightly concerned it might be brain stem fluid leaking out of my nose

Is it normal?

I think it is normal. Celebrate the rainbow colours of your snot -- at least it'll keep you entertained ...

It might just be that the infection is waning and the previously darker yellow & green stuff is being diluted by clearer stuff, lending it that sparkling bright quality so beloved of children's toy manufacturers.

Or possibly I'm wrong and ... YOU ARE DOOMED

Ah well...better not start any long books then.

It really is weird looking! Never seen anything like it in all my 34 years.

I've had the flourescent yellow stuff before, too. It all cleared up after a week or two, so I guess you're not dying and your brain probably isn't leaking...

Yes. I find that I need to get to that stage before it gets better so hopefully you'll be rid of it soon.

IIRC some bacteria produce yellow snot and some produce blue, hence usuallly snot is green

HTH

SpawnChorus · 16/02/2010 16:40

BALD - really?? Or has the yellow brain fluid snot rendered me hopelessly gullible?

Weirdly, yellow stuff flowed at an alarming rate for about three hours, then totally stopped . I'm all better...yay!

I opened this thread so I could relate the story of the snot that followed the small piece of crayon up the nose incident

Given it's an adult's snot, I'm going to back out quietly, assuming crayons weren't involved!

if its fluorescent yellow i would go to the docs as it sounds like a nasty bacterial infection which is normally treated with Zinnat(cefuroxime) tablets.

@SpawnChorus I had exactly the same thing when having a covid test done, they put the swab crazy far up my nose, next thing I know my nose is running but it’s like you say a really bright clear snot with a tiny spec of blood, I have a picture on my phone so when I see the doctor next I’ll ask him and let you know what he says! Pitty I can’t post a picture on here to give people a better indication of what we are talking about, this isn’t mucus it’s more a clear bright yellow substance which is really hard to explain because everyone things of the thick flem type mucus when you discuss it.

I know it’s rank but to see a visual picture of it will give people better understanding, and if you google cerebral fluid it’s identical.

Sounds exactly like the by product of a sinus infection to me. In fact, when I get to that stage, I am generally well on the mend.
