DS - no weight gain for 6 months - is this normal?

DS is 28 months. He currently weighs 31 pounds which would be great but he weighed exactly the same on Boxing Day. I don't take him to the HV because it seems excessive at this age and I would have to take time off work so these measures are done on my electronic bathroom scales, but backed up by his two year check and a weigh-in prior to his gromets op a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not worried about his weight per se, but more that he isn't putting on weight. He was 9lb 10 oz at birth and has always been in the upper centiles of the chart. I realise that weight gain slows down after the first birthday but surely not even a pound in 6 months is excessive.

I don't think so - I think once they are 2.5 or so their weight gain severely slows down. He sounds a good weight - my dd has been creeping around from 26 lbs to about 30 from the age of 2.5 to 5. They shoot up, but lose all the fat and become skinny little running around things, perfectly normal I'd say - if they were happy before his op I wouldn't worry at all. If they kept up the weight gain of the early years all the way through they'd be about 60lbs by the time they were 6, which isn't what you are aiming for!!

I would say that it would be fairly normal. I don't weigh my kids but I notice that ds will go a bit podgy then he will seem two inches taller and slender - he probably weighs exactly the same as he did but is now taller.
I think at around 2 they are far more active in the summer so he would probably lose a few pounds and I suppose it also depends on how much chocolate he ate on Christmas Day

Looking at DS1s red book, at his 2 yr check he weight 30lbs 7oz and 3 months later he'd put on 1 ounce!! He was 10lb 1oz at birth so another top percentile baby.

He's now a health, lively 4 year old and I've no idea how much he weighs

Ds didn't put on an ounce between 18 and 24 months. He's now 30 months and in the period between 18 and 30 he has put on 2 pounds but is very healthy, active, happy and eats loads. I wouldn't worry.

Thanks everyone. You have reassured me. It wasn't so much that his weight gain has slowed down but that it has stopped! Ds is definitely slimming down and growing upwards. Obviously I realise he is not underweight (can tell this by picking up his friends!).

Have been thinking though that DH weighs less than 10 stone and I am about 8.5 stone so maybe he's going to end up a bit more like us! He's definitely happy, healthy and active but no longer a good eater. Unfortunately for DS you have boosted my resolve on the only offering healthy food front.
