my eye is sore

I have got a lump underneath my left eye and it's really sore. Is this whats called a sty maybe? If so does anyone know whats caused it and how long it lasts?

It didn't give a time scale.

My father, an ophthalmologist, always recommends hot compresses for styes. It apparently speeds the drainage and lessens the chance of complications (eg further infection).

Do you wear contacts? I have had several ulcers on my eyes caused by daily disposable lenses. When ~I have an ulcer my eyes are extremely sensiitve to light, very painful and watery. HOpe you dont have this cos its awful.
