Breast lump biopsy outcomes

MIL has had a biopsy carried out today on a lump found in a routine mammogram Has anyone had experience of this? Is there a possibility that it could be nothing, or if there is a lump, is it likely to be cancerous? Just want to reassure DH really. Thanks.

I know of two women that have had a lump show up on a mammogram. Both turned out to be harmless cysts when investigated, so try not to worry.

My Mum had this too and it was completely fine.

The important things are that she is getting her mammogrammes and is following it up. Many women don't.

Did she have a needle biopsy or surgery? I've had both and both turned out to be just cysts. Have had several further cysts in breast, in labia and throat. Apparently I'm a, "very cysty person".

Fingers crossed for your MIL.

Thanks so much everyone.

She had a needle biopsy. Got our fingers crossed and hoping she is just "cysty" like you lilredwg! Charming description!

Hi Somanyboys, Has your MIL got her biopsy results yet? Hoping for an all clear for you all.

I was recalled for a biopsy after screening and had to have a wide boar needle biopsy. In my case it was cancerous, so just wanted to add that even if the outcome is like mine, a lot can and would be done, spo you can still reassure your DH that treatment for BC is very good and that the ability not to panic is an asset in this.

Just want to echo sandripples really (hiya sandripples! I'm waving)

I also had a lump found on a routine mammogram and subsequently had to have a lumpectomy (last April). I hope that in your MIL's case it will be nothing, but even if it needs treatment, loads can be done, life goes on, this need not be a total crisis and I'm, not being flippant when I say this. At diagnosis it feels like the end of everything - but that is not the case.

Good luck!
