Oh travelling, don't feel bad. You did so well and you can do it again. Come back when you're ready to try or just come back anyway!

I just remembered that my gums were sore and bleeding too, about week 2 or 3 I think. I didn't connect it with quitting smoking at all but just reading back, maybe it was that ...

Travelling and Depeche, will you try again do you think?

Hello again.
Have been back and read some of this
thread(it is loooooong), lots of good advice.
Looked at some of the links too, quite shocking stuff.
I'm only on day 2 with no fags or NRT but really feel I don't want to ever smoke again.
Will see how I get on tomorrow, feeling positive

Good for you, groovey! Don't get blase about it but do feel confident. If that makes sense? I can creep up on you even when you feel you're over the worst.

I'm 7 weeks tomorrow. Next week it'll be 2 months. The time seems to have gone very quickly.

Hi, I've actually made it to day 11.
dh and I aren't talking though.

Felt brilliant this morning but got a strong craving now.

It is so lovely not smoking, but it's the hardest thing I've ever done.

violetbloom · 25/03/2010 14:31

Well done! And surf that craving. It will go. A fag would taste awful if you had one now, really not worth it.

Thank you all for not making me feel like a loser . I am dissapointed with myself and will def be giving it another go . But I must admit I am really trying to lose weight at the minute and I know it is a very poor excuse but my mind is just not in the right place atm .

Well done to everyone who is sticking with it . 2 months nearly violet that really is amazing . You should be so proud of yourself .

Hi Depeche
How you doing ? Sorry you have fallen off the wagon as well .

CJCregg · 25/03/2010 19:57

Hi all, I've now done a week off the fags and the nicorette. Am no longer feeling crazy - it does fade, it's true. About twice a day I get an insane urge to stuff my face, but the rest of the time I'm pretty normal!

It feels so good. And I would say to anyone who is scared of doing it - it isn't nearly as bad as you think it's going to be. The first few days were manic, yes, but a bit of 'this too shall pass' and the odd compensatory chocolate biscuit or whatever and you can get through it.

Sorry, don't mean to sound smug. But I am so thrilled that I've done this!

Travelling and Depeche, keep looking in. Could you both, if you've got a minute, explain what happened to end your quit? I'm sure it would be helpful for other people to know what makes a quit fail, especially as you'd both been doing so well.

And CJ, you've done brilliantly! You're over the worst physical craving part. Now watch out for the psychological traps.

Thanks violet and depeche,
It really does help to have support on here.
Basking, I have barely spoken to my dh either, have not told him yet that I've stopped and he smokes too, so god knows what he's thinking.
So tonight was night 3 without and was ok, only screamed at had harsh words with dcs once.
The weekend will be challenging but I am determined and inspired by all of you.

Good for you, DMFan. I had several attempts before it worked. I was hating smoking and myself so much by the end that that was really what did it - I was sick of feeling so miserable about it, so anything would be better than that!

Go for it, and trust that the madness will pass, actually surprisingly quickly.

You can do it. You know that you really want to - it's just the first few days and your smoker's head (Allen Carr's evil little monster!) telling you that you 'can't'. Course you bloody can!

If I can do it (classic fall-at-the-first-fence-any-excuse-will-do-throw-in-the-toweller), so can you.

violetbloom · 26/03/2010 13:12

Go for it Depeche. We'll be here for you. Just think, you've got to do it sometime so why not now? You know you don't want to be smoking when you're in your 60s and at huge risks from death and illness. When it's too late to turn back the clock. Do it now. And don't worry if you fail, then start, then fail. Just keep ultimately quitting as your goal.

7 weeks today. Can't remember the last time I fancied a fag. Honestly. And I'm someone who's been smoking for over 25 years and with a definite 'I'm a smoker' identity!

Thanks and stick with it. Would you consider doing it without NRT? Just get it over and done with in one go? So you don't have to face coming off NRT at some point?

Depeche, travelling, intothegroove and others....

Have you read the Allen Carr book?

violetbloom · 26/03/2010 16:08

I read it years ago when I quit for my most successful quit. I didn't re-read it this time but most of what it said stayed with me. I think it's wonderful.

Have not read it but heard good things from those who have.
Will have to try and root it out in the library.
