all of a sudden my chest has gone really, really tight I've started to wheeze. It feels like I'm breathing through a straw and I'm frightened because I'm in the house alone.

Is there anything I can do?

I would ring NHS direct and see what they suggest :/

At the very least they can send a paramedic who can check your heart.

Hi, if you have any Piriton in the house then try and take 1 or 2 tablets. Sit in a hard chair up against a table and rest your elbows on the table. Try and breathe SLOWLY, sometimes pursing your lips can help when breathing out.

Phone 999 rather than NHS Direct, there isn't the time to mess around.

Keep as calm as you can and try not to worry.

Thanks for all your help last night!

I took antihistamines which helped a bit and then DH came back and took me to A&E where I had a nebuliser and felt a lot better. They kept me in overnight and gave me three hourly nebulisers. I was discharged this morning with two inhalers (Ventolin and Beclamethasone (?)) and instructions to see my GP about it.

Thanks again for all your help.
