Weird viruses -what's going around?

My one year old DS has had a temperature of 40 on and off for a week now. Repeated trips to the doctor have reassured me it's a virus and nothing too drastic, so am on that old favourite Calpol / Nurofen cocktail. Anyone had anything similar or aware of other weirdy bugs doing the rounds?

I think you may get some idea if you look at the "poorly baby - when do i start worrying?" thread.

My dd (8 mo.) has had a similar thing. And my ds (2.5 yr) has had a weird rash that keeps coming and going.

Oh my god how weird. DS (21 months) woke up with temp 39.5 on monday morning, gave calpol/neurophen all morning and was absolutly fine at bed time. Woke up screaming at midnight with 40.3 (thank god I just knew that was really high - couldn't get my ear thermometre to convert it back to english) and was sick a few times. Temperature came down after call to dr and copious amounts of calpol / neuro and sponge baths. Has been absolutely fine ever since - in fact ate me out of house and home on Tuesday
