Feel just as awful now. Going back on mon. Spent over 7 wks with hurrendous ms now this. Am working a 3 10 hour days out 5 wk. work obv. dont care. Have v. Stressful job, being ill/ recovering from ms. Being pg is just all catching up with me and left me teary and exhausted. Im thinking of asking gp to sign me off for a few days just need time to recover and get well away from stress. Could self certify but work just behave as if i'm lying and make things really difficult.( i no this is wrong and they shouldnt but there is nothing i can do about it and dont want to make matters worse for myself) Could someone support me/ make me feel better? I know its petty but i do truly feel terrible sorry for long post with poor format- on phone. Many thanks for reading.

Hi there, don't know if I can really help, but didn't want you to go unanswered. It sounds as if this course of AB's hasn't worked, the doctor might try you on a different one. Can you take any painkillers, so you can get a reasonable night's sleep?

Have you tried steaming - filling a bowl with hot water, add a drop of olbas oil then lean over bowl with a towel over your head and breath in the steam. It can sometimes help loosen things up a bit.

Another thing I sometimes find helps is to go for a walk, the fresh air will sometimes make the gungy stuff in your sinus drip out.

Sounds as if everything has got a bit on top of you. Its a long time since I was pregnant, but I had awful MS too, and I know its miserable and exhausting.

I would ask the doctor to sign you off sick, to give yourself time to recover. Once the sinus thing is sorted out you'll probably start to feel better in yourself.

Maybe a nice bath and an earlyish night tonight would be nice, and might help unblock your head a bit. Take care

I have had this on and off in the past and I realy sympathise with you. Without sounding like a flaky hippy, the one thing that knocked this on the head for me after months of trying was hopi ear candles! They did the trick and I can heartily recommend them.

foxinsocks · 16/01/2010 21:18

yes get signed off

it doesn't have to be stress, just say it's a sinus infection, you are perfectly entitled to a few days in bed with that you know - even without the pregnancy and morning sickness!

go and get yourself a few days in bed

Barking · 16/01/2010 21:19

you need a one of these
the plastic neti pot works best (Nasopure) as you can squeeze the bottle which pushes the water through, forcing the mucus out.

Hope you feel better soon x

leavingonajetplane · 16/01/2010 21:27

How rotten. Took DS back to the GP when the first antibiotic didnt work for this and the second one did the trick- different GP and she said the Augmentin Duo she presribed was much better for sinus than the first antibiotic prescribed.

thislittlesisterlola · 16/01/2010 22:36

thank you all so much. tartyhighheels im not sure what they are- off to google. Can you use them in pg? you dont sound like a flaky hippy type if it works its good enough for me kurrikurri thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. Will try steaming in the morning. I will definitely ask to be signed off I agree with foxinsocks some time in bed would be best for me and bub. I think i need to be kinder to myself. barking i will definitely be getting one of these do they sell them in shops or just online? jetplane will ask to see if different type would be better- not sure what you can have when pg. Thank you all lola

Poor you! I've just come through a bout of hideous flu topped off with a sinus infection! Horrible and pregnancy does rather limit what you can do. I tried everything and was in dreadful pain. What worked best for me was one of those grain filled bags/pillows which you heat up in the microwave (like a hot water bottle). Heat it up, lie face down on the bed with the bag over your eyes/forehead/bridge of your nose. Stay there for half an hour or so. Gunk melts. Then either blow your nose (if you're in a rush) or put your head over a bowl of water boiling water with eucalyptus oil in it (sorry if spelt wrong!) for a proper clear out. Not perfect butit does relieve the pressure for a while.

slim22 · 16/01/2010 23:31

Definitely second the use of neti pot squirt bottle. Only way to get a thorough nasal wash.

I have suffered from sinusitis all my life and all changed when I discovered this.

When pg I used a homeopathic remedy that cleared my sinus in 3 days : pulsatilla.

TheOldestCat · 16/01/2010 23:33

Get back to the doctor. Perhaps you needed a longer course of antibiotics than five days? I had sinusitis in this pregnancy too and it was really horrible - a seven-day course of amoxycillin sorted it out though.

Steaming helped me too in the short term. Also massaging the sides of my nose eased the pressure. You can take paracetamol for the pain (I checked with my midwife).

Hope you feel better soon.

ronshar · 16/01/2010 23:35

You can get Neil-med sinus rinse in Boots.

I suffer with bad sinus's. I have full sympathy for you.
Get signed off for a few days with a note for Sinusitus and go to bed.
Menthol crystal are good in hot water. Tiny pot normally found in small chemists.
Mostly get some sleep while you can.
I hope you feel better soon.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 16/01/2010 23:39

Can you use menthol crystals? They WILL clear your sinuses (use sparingly, they're strong)

Poor you - please get your GP to sign you off for a few days and try to sleep x

Hope you feel a lot better very very soon

thislittlesisterlola · 17/01/2010 11:24

Thank you all very much. I will go to the pharmacy 2moro and get some menthol crystals after seeing doc. Think i need a longer course too. Am just resting up today. Fingers crossed the gp will sign me off. Will keep you posted. Lola

Can 3rd the neti pot, my sinuses (always bad, Mum and cousin operated on frequently, t'is a family failing) much improved. The menthol crystals good as short term blast it away thing too.

I sympathise. I have had this since I was 12 weeks pregnant and I am now 28 weeks. Antibiotics took the infection and pain away but I am still bunged up most of the time and coughing up bucketloads of phlegm.

slim22 · 17/01/2010 14:08

You really need to continue the nasal rinse for a good week after all the horrible snot has cleared!

thislittlesisterlola · 17/01/2010 14:19

will pick one up in the pharmacy 2moro. And start rinsing. Am starting to think these antib's may of triggered a uti too or could of had one brewing anyway. Hopefully not but will ask doc in the morning to test anyway. I really hope this stops soon. I thought the 2nd trimester was the nice one thanks for all the advice hoping doc can fix me.
