Heart Murmur

Took DS to dr's just to get another inhaler for his asthma all rountine stuff.

but the dr noticed that he has a heart murmur but as it was a appointment at the emergancy surgery was told to book another appointment for proper look at ds.

i know lots of dc have "innocent" Murmurs but im now worried as ds has a few things that i have until now put down to his asthma wich im thinking may not even be that now as even when he struggles to breathe drs always point out actually his chest is clear.

but he cant do the usual ruff and tumble without getting breathless, and seem to be sweaty whenever he plays sometime says his chest hurts
.
will often have a blue colouring to his skin
esp around his mouth.
and is right off his food lately.
has anyone any experience of this with their dc?

Hello Fluffy. As you say some children have innocent murmurs also some have intermittent murmurs which are there when they are unwell and then go away again. I'm assuming your ds has had his chest listened to alot if he's asthmatic? If it's a new murmur it could well be because he's been unwell or is fighting something off.

That said it is possible that symptoms attributed to his asthma are infact as a result of a small hole or a leaky valve so best get him checked out. Try not to worry (ha! like you won't). How old is he?

i know that you are probably worrying but from what symptoms you have described i think your ds needs to be seen by a paediatric cardiac consultant. My GP heard a heart murmour in my ds when he was 4 weeks old, he did have problems with his heart. He is now nearly 5 and fit and well.
I know you are probably feeling worried now but getting him checked out by a specialist will give you peace of mind.

thanks for replys. strange thing is he has seemed well of late no colds ect.

he is 4 now and had been chest probs since he had broncilitis at 2 months. but nothing major, jus runs out of breath easily, sometimes complains of chest ache.

which he was complaing of last night so i lay with him for a while and with my head just next to his chest, i could hear what i guess was the "Murmur". sounded like a whoosh between the beats?. we have a appointment at doctors on tuesday so will see what happens.

Daisycake glad to hear your ds is doing well.
thanks again. x
