contraception dilemma - help & advice welcome

Have been on Mirena for 6.5 years (now on my 2nd). I suffer from horrendous PMT and non-existent sex drive which I now realise coincide with the time I got my first Mirena put in. I feel terrible most days and sick to death of feeling like a monster who hates almost everything!!! So a few weeks ago I decided to change my contraception to see if that would help me become normal again.

I visited a family planning nurse who advised I keep my Mirena in for the time being but take the pill (Femodette) alongside it. This pill apparently has a high dose of oestrogen which she said will help improve libido and also help the PMT . 3 weeks on, I feel no different PMT and libido wise. But I am having headaches daily which I wake up every day with and do not shift even with painkillers, my boobs are like melons and ache all the time - things have gone from bad to worse .

I feel so confused and low - I am so desperate to feel like a real woman again. A friend of mine suggested that I get sterilised which I would definitely consider if I knew the PMT would go and my Libido return!

So please help mumsnetters - any advice gratefully received

What about him having the snip? less risky and easier.

Or the copper coil?
Or a diaphram?

Hmm well I'm not sure coming off the Mirena would avoid the PMT. I have it much more noticeably now and I'm not on any form of hormonal contraception, dh having stepped up to the mark I suspect that crap PMT is par for the course in your mid thirties. How old are you?

the progesterone in the Mirena can cause worse PMT as that is th e hormone which kicks in 2nd half of the month naturally.
