GA and bad cough.

My DH is having an op. on his mouth on Tuesday under GA. He's had a really bad cough for 2-3 weeks now. Went to GP, who said no infection, but gave him precautionary AB's because of op.

On wed he had his pre op assessment. They said as long as not coughing up green/infected phlegm, they'll go ahead.

But, he's still got a really bad, constant hacking cough. I think he should get them to postpone, as I'm worried about him having the GA. He obviously wants to get it over with. Are they likely to go ahead with it? Its not an urgent operation, just minor surgery.

The anaesthetist will most likely check him before the op and cancel it if they are concerned. Dry cough can persist for ages ages after cold/flu/chest infection and usually just from inflammation/irritation.

If they are happy he doesn't have a chest infection it should be fine.hth

I'm sure as long as they have all the information and you keep them informed about the cough then they will make the right decision.

Depending on the surgery it might be painful to cough afterwards though.
