Indigestion from iron tablets?

I started taking some iron tablets a few days ago (for low iron levels) and I think I am getting a reaction to them, as I had been warned I might... I am getting some mild cramping in my stomach after eating, and general indigestion symptoms.
Has anyone else had that? Will it get better?

A very common side effect. You can try Spatone (iron rich mineral water available from Boots or Holland & Barratt) instead which has no such side effects.

Yes, I use Spatone, iron-rich water (available from Boots). No stomach side-effects but got my iron levels up quite quickly. You can have 2 a day to give yourself a boost.

Take them with orange juice. Don't take them with a cup of tea as apparently it stops them absorbing properly.

Wish I'd found this out in my first pregnancy and not my fourth!

Ferrum tablets don't give me tummy problems. The other tablets do. Ferrum are chewy and vanilla flavoured.

iron preparation can cause gut problems, especially constipation which may account for tummy cramps.
