I seem to have pulled a muscle or something, but like how? what?

Just before christmas I walked a bit too far with then 3wk old DS, and seemed to pull some muscle or tendon or something on the right side of my right foot, towards the ball of the foot at the back, under the ankle. Hurt to put pressure on, got better after after a few days, but for that time, sore to walk on.

Then it went away and all was fine. Then, suddenly, this afternoon, after no particular exersion on my part, just pootling around home, then it started to hurt again. Found walking on tiptoes on that foot eases it, then, forgot to do it, and BAMM! the pain searing across my foot, into my toes, up my leg and into my calf made me almost fall over, not great when holding my newborn son! I had to get DH to hold him, and then hobbled to sit down!!!

DH said its probably nothing, just an evening sat on my arse to rest it will do the job, bu i have things to do!

What have i done to it?!

Try and go before 10am, the folk sent by their GP's normally start to get into A&E around this time so it starts to get busy from this time.

PavlovtheCat · 04/01/2010 22:35

i am going to the MIU, i think they do x-rays there don't they? It is much closer than A&E, and like the gps but without germs!

I believe so.

alypaly · 04/01/2010 22:37

have you got any ibuprofen gel or voltarol gel...that might help a little

PavlovtheCat · 05/01/2010 09:07

ok, so get this...

i wake up this morning, and i can walk on it. It still hurts a little, but i forgot all about it in the night when i went to the bathroom, until i got back to bed and it was a little sore.

It feels like, well, like it is not hurting much now, but if i walk on it for too long, or stand on it in the wrong way it will get back to how it was yesterday. Does that make sense? It does not feel 'right' but its not like it was yesterday.

I will pop along to MIU if they are not busy anyway, just to rule out anything more serious than a pulled something or other.

I had something like this and thought I had broken a bone but it turned out to be an adgitated nerve when I saw the doc. Just took time and rest to heal. Hopefully it's just something like that... Would get it checked out anyway though.

PavlovtheCat · 05/01/2010 09:25

oh i hope it is something like that. I can rest it, but not all day everyday for weeks!

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 05/01/2010 09:26

Well the extent of my 'rest' was to stop going for longish walks for a few weeks, still pottered around the house etc

PavlovtheCat · 05/01/2010 09:30

oh thats fine, can do that. Anything to avoid long walks eh?

I am wondering if i pulled the tendon that fluffy was talking about, rather than snapped it, because i walked to far too soon after giving birth, that maybe the muscles and tendons had not toughened back up after all the elastin in them? Sound plausable?

Hope everything's OK pavlov No real advice to give but seems others have said some useful things, so will just add hope it's nothing major

PavlovtheCat · 05/01/2010 22:55

i have a confession. I did not get to MIU. Bad night with DS, and it seemed fine this morning. So it sort of got pushed back as 'oh thats not so bad' and life got in the way. Ok not fine but pain was vague and in the back of my mind. Then, this afternoon/evening, it came back, the pain, and with suddenness and force like yesterday, the pain being excruciating. I was just standing by the sink in the bathroom, moved with some weight on it and it went right up my calf again.

So tomorrow, i am at MIU first thing as it brought tears to my eyes.

(sigh) I wish there was a tut-tut smiley.

Same routine as yesterday, try to strap it up with something to keep it straight and keep it elevated, take some ibuprofen. A little tip for you, all of this makes it feel better, when it probably isn't really. They are measures designed to eleviate the symptoms (make it feel better), not fix it.

Get it looked at pav

alypaly · 06/01/2010 17:27
