Two weeks ago I did a few things which seemed to strain my arm on the outside about two inches down from the elbow. Carried a heavy baby in a car seat too far and had a bit of a fall while holding keys (ie my hand was in a fist when I fell)and I felt like my arm twisted a bit inside. TBH it never felt bad that day till the next day and being so busy with two DCs I didn't notice it. But I have had a dull ache (sometimes quite painful) ever since in area described below. Went the GP two weeks ago he said definitely not broken anything probably a strain /muscle and it would get better in about 3 weeks. Over xmas tried to rest it as much as possiblel and easier as DH off but today he went back to work and with two litte ones today really hurting despite tabs. I am a really anxious person also and worrying myself madly that it will never get better (been internet searching sprains - I know I shouldn't!). Any experts out there want to re-assure me or tell me what on earth I have done and when it might feel better. I am really worried.

Sounds like tendonitis to me. Very painful, I know, but not serious - not that I want to dismiss you, just reassure you that it's not a big thing. It will get better but you do need to rest it as much as you can (which is difficult with little ones), ice the area when it flares up, and take anti-inflammatories. It can take quite a while to heal, though - elbow tendonitis is a bitch to treat. Could you go see a physiotherapist? They'd do some ultrasound therapy or electric muscle stim, and work on any scar tissue. Hope this helps you relax about it - it is such a pain though!

thank you Jacksmama. Is reasuring but just want it to go. Would it be worth geting an MRI scan to confirm that that is whats wrong with it? Physio is an option I guess. You have reassured me as feeling like I had somehow 'disabled' myself. I am also borderline PND at mo with a ds2 that doesnt sleep:-) thanks again.

hi missy....have done a similar thing in exactly the same place on right arm. Had an MRI scan and i have torn the ligament off the bone. I play alot of badminton and i felt it go. Thought i just had tennis elbow, but it got to the point where i could not lift a heavy pan or heavy kettle up and i certainly couldnt play any racket sports.

If you lie you arm with palm side down on a table and then lift the back of your hand syraight up ....does it hurt.

Hi, Alypaly actually I can't notice any difference when I do that so maybe mines not the same but it is really hurting today. going to go back to my GP tomorrow. How long has your arm been this way?

it was like that for over 4 months and i had to stop all sport and lifting...even changing the duvet cover hurt.

My cosultant put a steroid injection in and it has virually totally recovered. However he said if it happens again ,he will have to put a small incision in my arm ,release the tendon, sandpaper the bone and let the ligament stick back in place.

did you leave your arm on the table when you raised the back of hand toward you.
does it hurt if you press the little indentation about .75-1 inch away from elbow when your arm is at right angle (Lying across the front of you)

Yes it does hurt when I do that, maybe it is the same. Feel for you as I've not had pain like this before and I've given birth twice! How old are your DCs? My youngest is only ten months and currently teething and waking a lot which is just what I need at the mo.

its like a heavy gnawing aching and it seems to affect everything you want to pick up. funnily enough my boyfriend has the same injury only his is worse(or is it that he is a man)He has had the injection and it helped for a few months. Then he was moving some furniture(a fridge) and it happened again. So he is now waiting for an operation.

my DC's are a bit older than yours.....nearly 22 and 17 yrs
