Has anyone had an ablation (heart)?

That's the basic question really.

I am having one on Tuesday. It was late notice because it is a cancellation, so I have not had long to worry about it, but have been winding myself up by reading the pamphlets about the procedure.

So has anyone had one - and did it hurt?

Gulp. Sandbags?

Thanks for telling me all this. Can I ask whether they went in through the groin area? That is kind of worrying me, although why I don't know, seeing that I have given birth a couple of times.

Of course I also have the worry that, with all this snow, I won't actually make it to the hospital...

the groin is to access your artery or vein, deepnding on the kind of abln, nobody "sees anything" our patients wear paper pants which we rip at the sides, the area we like is get to is where you can feel your pulse at the crease of your groin,
most cardiologists willl give some happy juice to relax you, like a double g and t and you will be able to let them know if you are uncomfortable.

good luck !!

Thanks for the info about the pants hotbot!

It seems a ridiculous thing to be worried about, but possibly I am trying to take my mind off the operation itself.

Mmmm double gin and tonic...

OK. A final question.
DH and I are arguing about this.
If they say 'nil by mouth from midnight on Monday' would you assume it was basically just Tuesday night and morning, or from the Sunday-Monday night and I can't eat anything at all on Monday?

Oh many thanks Jellyhead.

I did not want to be spending the last day of the holiday starving!

Hope you are ok Libra. I had mine done about 10 years ago. The results have been brilliant.

lucykate · 07/01/2010 20:30

how did it go libra?, hope you are ok. i have talked to my gp about an ablation (i have a palpitation problem, svt) but never taken it any further.

Littlefish · 08/01/2010 10:12

Lucykate - mine was SVT as well. The treatment worked perfectly. I haven't had a palpatation for 10 years (since I had it done).

macwoozy · 08/01/2010 10:19

How was it Libra? Hope you're ok.

I had one done several years ago but it wasn't succesful. Hope Libra has more luck.
