major back pain.
have been prescribed tramadol and diazepam which are marvelous and i've stopped crying.

however i'm not good with opiods of any sort. codeine makes me itch too and morphine makes me swell up like a frog.
the tramadol appears to be doing th same as the codeine and i'm now itching madly all over. but i need it because the pain was so hideously bad.

can i take an anti-histamine on top? anyonedone the same? did it damage you?

Antihistamines can be taken with tramadol and diazepam according to the BNF but be aware that the sedative effect may be increased by taking together.

Perhaps try a non sedating antihistamine rather than Piriton?

both codeine and tramadol are morphine derivatives so that is why you are getting the same side effects. Morphine has done a similar thing to me...it made my face red, burn and look swollen after i had it iv, but im ok with tramadol.

Which anti histamine are you thinking of taking with it...if it is cetirizine...it will not increase the drowsiness....but the ones like piriton(chlorpheniramine) are more likely to cause increased drowsiness.

neoclarityn will not cause increased drowsiness either.

If you are having such bad problems with tramadol and codeine why does doc not try gabapentin or pregabalin which are excellent pain killers.

yes you can take antihistamine with tramadol - I had similar symptoms when taking it in hospital and was given antihistimine.

depends how drowsy you want to be on which one you take.

yes i regularly have to as the tramadol really makes me itch. mine is prescribed by the gp but it can make you drowsy
