I have PCOS and have battled with my weight for years on and off. I joined Curves and got my first weigh in today and although I have lost 6 inches I have only lost 1.6lb in just over 3 weeks. Having heard what other people have lost I am sooooo gutted. I am sick of fighting this battle.

Muscle weighs more than fat so although you haven't lost much weight you have clearly lost inches. Don't understand why you are upset.

trellism · 21/12/2009 13:51

I have PCOS too. I can only give you encouragement though. Everyone is different and loses weight at different rates. I would go more on the fact you've lost inches, rather than pounds.

And keep going! It'll start being fun in about another month's time.

bargainhuntingbetty · 21/12/2009 13:56

I know that other people who go have lost loads of weight and inches. My friend lost half a stone in 3 weeks and my other friend lost 4.5 lb and 13 inches.

I have been on a weight loss/health thing for over a year now and the weight is coming off so slowly its not even funny that is why I am upset. I am desperate to be able to go and buy the next size down in trousers etc.

Do you keep a diary of what you are eating?

bargainhuntingbetty · 21/12/2009 14:05

No I dont keep a diary mainly because I hardly have the time to cook never mind write it down lol. No seriously I will have to give that a go and see where I am going wrong

dont worry yourself, I've been on a GI diet for 7 days and have put on 1lb.

That takes my current weight to 14 stone and 9 pounds, am only 5.7 so am offically obese!!.

The fact you have lost 6 inches means you are toning up . stick at it...

i'm taking up swimmmingin the new year to try and shift at least 3 stone!

turkeyandALLthetrimmings · 21/12/2009 14:08

oh am nmeanto say I also have pcos - have striggles for yrs and yrs! i feel ur pain.

bargainhuntingbetty · 21/12/2009 14:12

Its crap isnt it. I got the coil fitted to combat the pcos symptoms but that will be coming out in the new year as it is not agreeing with me. PCOS is SHIT

I Know, along with the adult acne that is there 75% of the time and mood swings - the list goes on and on and the worst thing is my doc says nothing can be done to help so I just have to get on with it ( its a male doc)

sorry hijacked your thread a bit with my rants - pls forgive! just want you to know that you are NOT alone...

MollieO · 21/12/2009 22:46

I think keeping a food diary is a good idea. I found it useful particularly on weeks that didn't go well. I could look back at previous successful weeks and know that I did have the ability to stick at it and do well.

brimfull · 21/12/2009 22:51

pcos is crap I agree
Assuming you are dieting as well the best way to lose weight with pcos is to do low GI / low carb.

Apologoes if you were doing this anyway.

A low fat-high carby diet is the worst thing for pcos.

bargainhuntingbetty · 22/12/2009 16:38

Thanks for the replies ladies, I sometimes think that it is not as bad as I make out it is but it is nice to know that I am not alone and it really is crap. Thank you all x
