I am not sure if this is the right place...

I just wanted to know if it is normal to have only had on vaginal exam after birth?

I didn't tear, just had some cuts from DDs nails.
My only check was straight after delivery.

I think I am fine, just wanted to know really.

When I had my eldest 12 years ago the GP did a vaginal examination at my post natal check up. I was expecting the same after I had DD2, two years ago. The doctor at the time said that they don't tend to do them now, only if a problem is raised.

I never got checked after ds and dd's birth - the doctor just asked if everything was ok.

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2009 08:28

i've had no checks with my 2

I asked at the six week check after my DS2 as I wanted to be sure my "grazes" had healed well. Didn't have VE after DS1.

I didn't have any after DD's birth (or not once stitched up, anyway), just a chat with the doctor.

Thank you for your replies. I was told by a few people that you usually had a check, however, they have obviously stopped doing that.

Doc used to do a "postnatal smear" on women. Then this was reduced to just on women who were due a smear. Now, even if due, smear is suggested at 12 weeks as the hormone changes at 6 weeks can cause false positive results which cause a lot of worry and need the smear to be repeated.

Hi, you can only have a smear if you are over 25. Which I am not, thanks for replying though
