I got news this morning that one of my friends died yesterday. She was in her very early 30's, two young children and everything to live for. Despite a mastectomy a couple of years ago, the cancer spread and she is gone. I can't tell you how dreadful I feel.

It is so important that we check our breasts regularly. It takes a few minutes and could save your life.
One of my best friends had a message just like this one, but it was face to face and by her boyfriends exgf who also had just had a mastectomy because of breast cancer. This message from such an unlikely messenger almost certainly saved my best friends life.

Pass the message on please ladies. Make sure your friends and family are nudged into remembering to check.

It certainly can't hurt to ask the Gp for advice popsycal. Always better to be on the safe side.

Cantuccini my breast cancer was found by a routine mammo.I never felt a lump[big boobs] but there was a 2cm Grade2 lurking in there.Thank Heaven for routine mammograms-do make your mum go.[I was 62].

Cantuccini, if you look on the tamoxifen thread, you will see ReallyWoundUp contacted MNHQ about TeaTotal, and got a reply saying they'd 'had a word' and the thread disappeared. Troll of the first order, a rather frequent unwelcome guest on the breast cancer support threads.

pranma · 20/01/2010 22:05

I am always astounded at how experienced mumsnetters recognise trolling and they are usually right. Its normally immediately before or after I have put something supportive on a heart wrenching thread. On bc forums we have had 'cyber munchies'who pretend to have bc usually very badly then are found out.How sick is that?

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/01/2010 22:44

God,really pranma ? why would they do that ?

Cakesandale · 21/01/2010 09:34

There are some sickos in the world, MAS, that's for sure!

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/01/2010 09:44

gah !

pranma · 21/01/2010 20:45

This is genuine it has happened at least 3 times that I know of-one was only found out when she said she was in a hospice and admin wanted to send flowers so emailed for address........oops!!

solo · 23/01/2010 01:01

That's disgusting!

Late night bump.

Kitkatqueen · 23/01/2010 01:20

Ladies, any advice here? I would love to check my boobs as this is something that kind of plays at the back of my mind iykwim? BUT! i've been pregnant or breastfeeding or both continuously since may 2003. My boobs go through 3 cup sizes a day depending on how full I am, how can I tell? My boobs have always been of the lumpy kind - as in feeling bumps in them that are nothing.

Should I get checked professionally? Is it possible?

SparklyGothKat · 23/01/2010 01:37

I check my breast regularly, am currently am on my period, but the last few weeks I have had a dull ache in my left breast. I can feel lumps but think its due to period and hormores. Am 31 and worried about going to GP in case he says I am too young.

solo · 23/01/2010 02:21

Yes, make an appointment with the well woman clinic Kitkat...and SGK, they are very good and will check you out and I'm sure show you how to self check. There's some great advice on here, but please ignore the troll's 'advice', you'll see you it is.

Let us know how you get on ~ it helps other's to know what to do/what happens etc.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2010 08:45

agree with solo Sparkly and Kitkatqueen - plase go and see your gps - am sure everything is perfectly normal but they will reassure you - I felt silly once going because of unusual pains in one breast and the relief that it was nothing was immense. Age should make no difference !

popsycal · 23/01/2010 13:35

i am going to gp on monday. felt what I amconfident is a milk duct (currently have thrush in my breast) but am going to get it checked out

AnAuntieNotAMum · 23/01/2010 13:42

25 ish years ago, everytime I had a smear (they used to offer yearly for young women on the pill from the age they started on it) they checked my breasts and went over how to do it myself. No GP or nurse has done that in the past 10 years when I've been for a smear. I was wondering why this practice stopped?

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2010 13:56

hope it is all ok popsycal
AnAunty - I suppose they don't have time ? Last smear I had the nurse asked me if I checked my breasts but that was it.

solo · 23/01/2010 21:41

Good on you Cantuccini, I'm sure your Mum will appreciate your 'deception' once she's really thought about your reasons behind it. Good luck

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/01/2010 09:09

solo · 24/01/2010 12:52

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/01/2010 17:00
