ulcerative colitis in young children?

Here's a question to those who have/know of ulcerative colitis: does anyone know how early this can manifest itself in children?
I have it myself, and know there is some possible hereditary causes. Dd (3) has frequent smelly, diarrea-like stools (sorry for the details!), seems to be more tired than ususal at times, ans complains of tummy ache before going to the toilet and then poo..
I know, sounds very general and could be all very innocent, but having had experience of it myself, I can't help worrying (a bit).

i would get it checked out by the doc. My ds developed allergiv colitis at 3 months and had diarrhea and blood in stools. He may need help with his diet.
