DS (2 yrs) and Tamiflu.

I've just given DS his first dose. He's been ill with a temp since Monday, it has fluctuated with Calpol. He's got lots of snot and an awful cough too, hardly eating and has been sick a few times. A couple of his friends had a bug too and have recovered already and I thought he would too so had been holding off getting the meds. Poor little thing still hot although seeming slightly chirpier but I went to the pharmacy today because he's been ill so long.

Am worried about the side effects. The last thing I want is DS getting worse nausea and from what I've heard, Tamiflu doesn't really help much but cut flu short by a day or two. Has anyone had good results with Tamiflu? Is it really awful to stop giving Tamiflu half way through course?

Anyone else been in this situation?

I think Tamiflu is only effective if you start it within 48 hours of symptoms so tbh you've probably missed the window. It only reduces symptoms by a day and has some pretty yucky side effects too so I don't think I'd keep it up if I were you. Have you taken him to the doc? If he's had a temp since Monday I would be wondering if he had some sort of underlying ear infection/chest infection or something... hope he feels better soon.

Hi, I started the course of Tamiflu yesterday with my 2yr old, and discovered how difficult it is to administer. Mixed it with yoghurt etc but it still made him retch it back up.
Due to this, I was prompted to call NHS Direct, where the nurse informed me that however unpleasant it was that the course must be completed. So do get qualified advice before stopping. I am off to the shops to find suitable substances to mix it with??
