Bad Abdominal Pain - IBS???

HairExtensionsFromSanta · 15/12/2009 22:03

Sorry if this is a bit YUK but I am sitting here crying with the pain and could use some advice.

I have a GP app tomorrow but not sure I can last until then.

I have had loose bowel movents for a few weeks but since Friday I have had really bad stomach pains which have gotten progressively worse and I am now at the stage where I am crying real tears with this pain.

I did some research on the net and the closest "diagnosis" I could find for my symptoms was IBS.

Does anyone suffer from this and do these symptoms sound familiar?

oooh hair extensions...ive just had this for the last 3 weeks. Ended up at A & E twice as the pain was making me shake and making me really frightened. I thought i had got food poisoning, now they are saying its gastritis. But the pain is awful and 3 weeks down the line i am still feeling crap. You have my sympathy and i will be on here for a while as my belly is still hurting and i cant get to sleep properly. have lost 11lbs in 2.5 weeks and am hardly eating anything

where is your pain.what makes it worse

HairExtensionsFromSanta · 15/12/2009 23:24

Hi

Thank you all for your replies,my first thread on here, I had hoped it would be about something more pleasant!

I have taken painkillers - the same ones I used for post C-Section pain (so fairly strong I think) but they aren't diminishing the pain at all.

Nothing seems to make the pain worse, the problem is nothing is making it better, not the painkillers, different positions or hot water bottle.

The pain comes in waves lasting anything from 30 secs to a minute and a half (approx) there is very little pain in between this but it is happening more frequently so the pain free gaps in between are geting shorter. And it starts above my naval and kind of "washes" up IYSWIM to waist level.

If it was lower abdominal I would probably have blamed it on PMT but this is definately not PMT.

AlyPaly - That sounds horrendous and I know how you feel although I have only had the pain since Friday, I am well shaky and sweaty as but thought this was from the pain - I have no temp.

I'm not eating either.

my pain is above belly button and up to diaphragm. It feels like someone has kicked me acroos my tummy and i feel nauseous too.

alypaly · 15/12/2009 23:29

if it is in waves it is possible that it is IBS. How old are you if you dont mind me asking?

HairExtensionsFromSanta · 15/12/2009 23:33

I'm 33

try some buscopan or lomotil IBS from the chemist. I didnt have any temp either...just frightening pain. I thought i was done with abdo pain as i had my gall bladder out earlier this year

HairExtensionsFromSanta · 15/12/2009 23:45

Thank you - I will try this as can't see GP until afternoon (don't fancy trailing 3 DDs with me - I don't actually think I could physically manage the double buggy)

I hope this is sorted out for you soon and you get better. Please let me know how you get on.

And thanks again for the support

Good luck for tomorrow. Just to say, don't let your GP fob you off by saying it's IBS without referring you to a gastroenterologist, they need to check for other conditions first (ie, crohns/ulcerative colitis) as the symptoms are really similar. It's not good practice for IBS to be diagnosed without them testing for other things first. I hope it goes well for you.

only take one three times a day initially as sometimes it can make you get funny vision for a while but you can take up to 8 a day. Read the leaflet and see whats best for you.
the other drug is Colofac IBS which is similar
