Can someone tell me a useful way of treating cradle cap please? I've heard that a gentle face exfoliating cloth (such as safai-skin)can help, but what else do you use with the cloth??

We use dentinox cradle cap shampoo which seems good. You can also try rubbing olive oil into their scalp and leaving it on all day or all night, then brushing or rubbing gently in circles with a cloth to remove the scales.

A friend recommended 50/50 cream (available from the chemist). It's gloopy gunk so you'll want to put a towel over the sheet of the cot if you put it on your LO at bedtime. Smear it on LO's head and gently comb through the following morning/day at bath time. It worked wonders on our DD's head and only took a couple of days before she was completely clear of cradle cap!

My HV recommended Olive Oil and then combing through with a baby comb to lift the worse. Makes a bit of a mess but once you have washed it all out looks 100x better - or at least it did for us. Only did it once, it never came back.

With DS1 we used Dentinox shampoo, but the best thing that got rid if it, was to comb pure oil through the hair and massage it into the scalp- (I think we used cold pressed organic jojoba) the night before a hair wash was due. It moisturised the skin and combing loosened some of it and then the shampoo helped wash it all out.

This time around DS2 is just beginning to get a dry scalp, so I've been moisturising his scalp with shea butter straight before his hair is washed, and then it stops the shampoo from drying his scalp out so much.

I bsecond the olive oil. Put it on in the morning, stick on a cap and comb it thorugh for ages before bath in the evening.

Cheap, easy and effective.
