DD (3) is on antibiotics for what GP said was a nasty ear infection as well as possible UTI.

Her temp at the time she saw GP was 39C after Calpol and she was being sick everywhere and crying a lot.

The GP said to take her to hospital if she wasn't much better in 24 hours.

Yesterday her temp came down to 37.8C and she seemed much better. I phoned GP and they said it sounded like she had turned a corner but not to worry about taking her to hospital if I was worried about her.

TOday her temp is NORMAL but she seems much more ill, she is just lying there on sofa, and she is usually super active.

She has got diarrhoea from the antibiotics.

Does anyone medical know if this is likely to just be weakness or should I still take her to hospital? I would definitely if she still had a high temp but it is normal now??

TIA.

she has now got up and is tottering around but looks really rough.

Am marginally less worried though.

Am mainly concerned it could be a UTI, they said they could only treat the ear infection first.

Anyway, will stop talking to myself!!

Hi, is it too complicated to get her to the hospital just in case?

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 10/12/2009 16:06

it would be complicated just now but not in a couple of hours when DH home..just didn't know if I would be being silly.

Of course she has now perked up a bit and is tottering around eating a biscuit and trying to play. She seemed like she couldn't get up an hour ago

She probably would be feeling a bit knackered from diarreha (gad how do you spell it?), ear infection, vomiting, UTI - probably hasn't eaten much either? You'd feel the same after that lot .

My gp always reminds me to give lots of yoghurts when the dc's are on AB's. Replaces some of the healthy bacteria in the gut that the AB's kill.

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 10/12/2009 16:19

Yes, that is true! It's just she wasn't as knackered yesterday when she had the fever. Anyway she is now tearing up the house a bit so I assume she has bounced back somewhat.

I would have felt like such an idiot if I had rushed off to A and E

mumonthenet · 10/12/2009 16:25

yep at that age they bounce from one extreme to the other...and you're left a nervous wreck!

ChocFudgeCake · 10/12/2009 16:25

Glad to read that she is playing now. When we find ourselves in such predicaments, I prefer to go to waste time in hospital just in case, DH prefers to stay at home just in case too.

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 10/12/2009 16:29

I usually err on the staying at home side, I have to say, just as well on this occasion

she woke up this morning and was sick, then wouldnt let me put her down and is now sleeping on the sofa, Gp said they had almost admitted her to hospital on Tuesday so we are to take her up there if not picking up, even if temp normal..just waiting for her to wake up.

OP posts:
mumonthenet · 11/12/2009 10:24

oh dear fanjo, in that case worth getting her checked out.

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 11/12/2009 10:25

yes, she has been asleep for 2.5 hours despite a full nights sleep last night too, dont like waking her up though!

OP posts:
teameric · 11/12/2009 10:29

yes fanjo take her to get checked out, hope she feels better soon

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 11/12/2009 10:34

Thanks, she has woken up but looks terrible. I can guarantee she will be running around A and E when she gets there though, she always perks up when she goes somewhere like that.

Still, if a visit to the hospital makes YOU feel better then it's worth it

Let us know how you get on.

teameric · 11/12/2009 11:08

agree with mumonthenet at least it will put your mind at rest.

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 11/12/2009 13:32

took her, and of course she perked up loads when there and was even running around a bit.

They said she has a double ear infection, possibly a stomach bug and we are trying to get a sample to test for a UTI but she is not potty trained (having ASD) so its nigh on impossible.

We are just to continue the antibiotics.

I felt a bit of a fraud but at least she has been seen!

Hope she didnt pick anything up there, there was a child who looked like he could have swine flu.

You couldn't write this, she came back and immediately was very drowsy and lethargic again, fell asleep on sofa..and fell off and bumped her head, then fell back asleep. So have to wait until she wakes up to see if she is OK from head bump too!

Would take her outside to see if she perked up before taking her back to A and E though, have learned lesson!
