I had my last injection in October and have just finished my first "normal" period - from January to May I've been bleeding every other week. However, my sex drive, which was completely non-existent while I was having the injections, has returned - hurrah!

Had my last injection last July. First bleed just after Easter (I think). 2nd one about 6 weeks later, and then a week off before bleeding throughout a ten day holiday. Hhhmph.

But, as with flashingnose, my sex drive is back. Which outweighs the current inconvenience.

TinyGang · 29/06/2005 18:06

Yes, I can see why it's a contraceptive - my libido vanished on it so very encouraging to read flashingnose and purpleturtle's posts!

Only stopped it last February and have just started to have some kind of period but it hasn't really got going and seems very light. I seem to have horrible pmt type symptoms just now though which I have never suffered with before in my life.

On balance, I do wish I'd never taken it. I had it for 3 yrs roughly and have not felt good on it; weight gain, emotional, no libido - none of which are like me at all and I've never had problems with before. I had no idea what the downsides were to depo until reading mumsnet and always used to put it all down to me being weird.

popsycal · 29/06/2005 18:15

i had 3 injections and found it veyr difficult to get pregnant afterwardsperiods returned to normal after about 4 months
i got very 'mood swing-y' but that could have been the situation that i was in at the time

Donbean · 29/06/2005 18:33

Took me 18 months for my periods to return to normal.
As far as i can remember i had my first blee about 8 months after stopping the injection. I bled almost constantly for months and months then after 18 months i began to have a regular monthly period.
I had loads and loads of problems during and after my time having the injection. (a whole other hread).
I was on it for about 7 years.

jolima71 · 01/07/2005 14:26

Hi Donbean
did you go dr's about your constant bleeding??? that is what is bothering me don't want any more kids so not bothered about fertility, but after the 3 years with nothing think i can manage a week every month lol, i wouldn't recomend the depo jab to anyone, i never really had any probs except libido and mood swings, it all the other stuff i have been reading since i have been on it, like the bone density thing, i am so not happy with my dr as she wouldn't put me back on the pill afer my 3rd child her reason was cos i have had blood clots before, but the other day i just started reading about the depo (as i want to come off it) and it says shouldn't use if you have history of blood clots,so she never did her homework,so i have been a ciff person for the last 3 years for nothing, makes me mad (angry)

I was on depo for 3 years. My last injection was in May i think and in mid October i started bleeding and it won't stop. Help! Is this normal for stopping depo? no doctors mentioned constant bleeding to me and its not on the packet info. But from what i read below others who have stopped depo have had the same problem.

mymama · 04/11/2005 11:30

hp I had depo injections for a year and didn't bleed at all while on it. Had last injection in the June got my period in November and it was normal. Got pregnant in February. I am not thinking it is normal to bleed like that when you have finished. I was told you would either bleed the whole time or not bleed at all while you are having the injections but you should resume to "normal" within a few months after.

trace2 · 04/11/2005 11:32

had last depo in jan only had two peiods since

hi
when i was 22 after my 2nd child i got the nova t coil fitted and for 4 years not a problem.. then got a new 1 fitted and mervia or something
and all i got was thrush.. so
i got the jag last november
omg for the full 3 month on the jag all i did was bleed and the mood swings were terrible i mean i am quite a happy person but that jag completely turned me into a monster when i sit now and think of what i have put my family through in that 3 month i want to cry!
forget a sex life .... when i tried to have sex i was a nighmare it was to dry and hurt.
so after the 3 month ( jan) i diddnt get another jag i went on the coil (nova t)
for the first 7 weeks the pain was unreall and still bleeding wot a nightmare then the bleedin would kinda stop then i would get these brown stains oh my god a thaught my lifes doomed!!
so on the 24th of april 09. i went to my family planning clinic where i was advised to take 3 month supply of the pill (mercilon) as this is a low hormone... while still on the coil as this might sort the bleeding out so i thaught ye cool anything is worth a try!!!!!!
well i'm 4 days into the pill... and YEY the bleeding has stopped!!! but the 1st night i took the pill about 3 hrs after taking it i couldnt see out of my right eye n a started to painc and thaught right am goin to bed and see how i feel in the morn.... well during the night i woke up with the worst headache ever... (migrane) which i havent had for about 13 yrs.... and every day after ive felt tired and nausea... ive been told this will pass... i really hope so as just as things were begining to look up it all tumbles down
i really dont know what to do now
but i think i'll finish my 3 month course and stop and see how i get on from there
honestly id rather go through the rest of my life pregnant than go through this,,,,,

being a woman is soooooooo hard!!!!!
men have it soooooo easy lol
