Apparently mine is 4.4 (am 41, female and average build). Is that average, or good, or am a medical marvel?! Have Googled but am a bit rubbish at it and I can't find any kind of chart.

TIA.

Need to get my eyes checked, that's for sure ... should have read 'or am I a medical marvel?'

I think until recently, anything under 5 was considered a really good. DH told me that they have now put the "ideal level" at anything under 4.(not rally sure where he got the info from)

I have 4.1 and the nurse giving me the results said that it was putting me at 1% risk of heart problems in the next 10 years. I was really happy as I am a big lady and always get comments such as "Aren't you worried about heart problems?"

I suppose 4.4 must be quite good as well, maybe you could ask your GP?

mines 2.9 and i am a size 16. nothing i do can make it go up.

i d think it is down to genetics a bit as all the females in my family are very low.

Wow - that does sound low moocowme! Mind you, don't really know what I'm talking about ... clearly

Thanks gorionine - didn't want to bother my GP with the question as had it done at hospital. But appreciated hearing from you and am delighted to hear that yours is so good!!

Hi, your Cholesterol level is good and assuming your Blood Pressure and other things are also normal then your risk of Heart Disease in the next 10 years is 2%, which is also the average risk for someone of your age. If you had balls then your risk would be 7%. Regular exercise and Omega 3 oil can raise your good HDL Cholesterol which will decrease the risk even further.

Best Wishes

gp's used to aim for a cholesterol level of 5 up until about 2 years ago. Now they are trying to get them down to 4.8 as the best level.

If you know you have cholesterol problems in your family...get it checked..otherwise just eat healthily and avoid the nasties.
