I know it is high but just how high? My mum had a stressful day today and felt unwell so went to the doctors who told her that her BP was 178 over 97 and put her on Lisinopril 2.5mgs. Does anyone know just how high this is?

It's pretty high- if the bottom figure is over 90 it is considered dangerous.

Normal BP should be below 120/80. This figure used to be regarded as normal, but they now suggest you get it lower if you can. The top figure is not so crucial as it can be raised by anxiety on the day but the bottom figure is more relevant.

Both my parents take their own BP regularly as dad has medication for his and mum had a mild stroke a while back.
My own BP last checked was around 105/65- but I do do a lot of exercise.

If you google there is the BP society/association which hs plenty of good info on the site.

That is really kind and really helpful. I Googled and saw what the average was but I wasnt sure if just "7" over the 90 was that important.

Thanks
