Anyone had/know anyone who has had a laryngectomy?

Hi,
My Dad has just had this procedure done and wondered if anyone had any time scales for how long in hospital etc. and tips for not being able to speak etc.

Any stories,, help and advice would be great

My father in law had one. He was able to speak intelligibly within about a year, and he lived well and happily for many years after that.

Oh, forgot to say, there is a support group, see www.laryngectomy.org.uk/, and my father in law found them very helpful.
