As it says above really sorry but feeling a bit panicky.

I had a flu jab a few weeks ago and recently had a chest infection. My DS (4) has had a cough for a few weeks, quite hacky and flegmy, but cries so much at docs that he can't hear his chest or get near him.

My DH has been ill for 2 weeks now (longer than he's ever been ill in the 11 years we've been together) his second visit to the docs today has yielded a diagnosis of either he's had swine flu or he has pnemonia.

I've had a letter to get a swine flu jab (i'm moderately asthmatic) and it's recommended others in my family have it too.

I'm a bit iffy about myself having it. And i know that my DS can't have it while he's ill.

What does anyone advise?

Thanks

Cx

Talk it all over with your GP.

Hope you all feel better soon though - sounds quite hellish for you all just now

why are you iffy about having it yourself?

Good idea to talk to your GP about when your ds should have it.

Hopefully your dh will start feeling better soon, and will then have to decide for himself whether to have the jab.

Only person in our family to have had the jab is dd(14) - slightly asthmatic. She had it 10 days ago. She had slight fever, aches and pains, and tiredness for one day. Sore arm for a couple of days. Did everything she normally does, even with the "side-effects" - school, gym, sports.. She is totally fine.

Hope that helps

i am the same , myself & ds (10) have asthma & dd (3) is suspected of having asthma , she has had a very bad chesty cough for 6 weeks now , which turned into a chest & lung infection , i have an appointment for the jab on Thursday for myself & the dc's but i am very nervous about it , & dh doesn't think this vaccine has been tested enough . I'm agonising over it tbh

Thanks all. Will try doc but assume he'll just say have it and that's it, can't imagine there'll be much objectivity.

biggirlsdontcry - i too am concerned over the not tested enough aspect.

Still not sure. don't know how DS would handle side effects never mind any other potential problem.

Thought all this jab agony was over with the MMR!!

10 million people have now been vaccinated in Europe. That's a pretty big test!

The European Medicines Agency is producing a weekly safety report of the vaccination campaign. see this

Easy for me to say, I know, since my dd has had the jab and is fine...but I did think long and hard before she had it, and DH and I had no doubts it was the right thing to do.

I still think that in most people SF will be unpleasant but not life-threatening. However, it wasn't a risk I wanted to take with dd.

hi namechange just to give you an update , i got myself , ds (10) & dd (3) vaccinated this morning , we got a letter from dd pre-school yesterday to warn us that there has been an outbreak of swine flu in her class ,
the dc's and myself were fine , arms are a bit sore , ds felt a bit sickly straight after the jab but he was fine after a dose of calpol .
