A menstrual question.............

dd (13) hasn't started her periods yet, but is developing gradually.
In June she is going away with her school for a week for an activity holiday based around watersports. Now she may well not have begun menstruating by then. But if she has, and is not comfortable with tampons, can the doctor give her anything to delay her period?
Obviously this may not be an issue, but I am thinking ahead here.

yes, but would she want that?

Is the whole week water-sports based?

Yes it's all water sports.

I remember having a period on a week residential visit to Dol-Y-Moch - and I'm late 40s now. Was a misery, I'd only been having persiods a few months so was using STs and there was a lot of water-based stuff, so I would support your suggestion.

There is certainly something that will do the job - I took it to avoid my period starting on my wedding day. It just stalled the period for a few days - no side effects or anything. Whether a GP would give it a 13 year old, I don't know.

Yeah I have this thing called norethisterone or something. It's some kind of hormone. As I've got a copper coil I can't control my periods, so the dr prescribed it. I haven't had the need to take it yet though. Not sure if they would prescribe to a 13 year old but you can ask.

Hi
Am now early 30s but I was unlucky enough to get my 1st period on such an activity holiday and it was quite miserable though didnt stop me doing stuff as I had tampons with me (was prepared but didnt expect it as I was nearly 15 and had been waiting FOREVER!)

I'd take the chance- even if she has started by then, its 25% chance of being that week. I'd say dont interfere with nature and make sure she is prepared with "kit" including parecetamol (I can remember feeling dreadful!)

Yes there's a hormone tab as others have said. I know the GPs round here prescribe it to under 16s so it may be worth asking your GP at the time if it turns out she needs it...
