Period query (TMI alert), clotting etc HELP!

Posted this in conception, but think it's more of a general health query - any insight very welcome.

Am 43, have a 3.5 year old ds, ttc #2. Regular periods, which, since returning after ds' birth, have been heavy for a couple of days, stop for a couple of days, then return as very dark brown. The clots have been getting bigger and this round were VERY big - is this hormonal? What does it mean? We've had lots of tests, as we're heading towards ivf, and they can find nothing wrong. I'm convinced there's a hormonal imbalance, and am hoping someone can point me in the right direction to get this sorted. Or, tell me that it's all perfectly normal, and not to stress about it.

The stop-start is normal. I am post-meno, periods stopped at 53, but for all my 40s I can remember stop-start over a 5 day bleed. It obviously is a hormonal blip but nothing to worry about.

Clots- are you sure they are clots? I know this sounds silly, but I read that some clots are really just pooled blood that stagnates in the vagina and is then passed as a clot when you stand up etc. It could also be endometrial tissue which is very common, and your periods might be getting heavier if you are peri-menopausal.

If you want to t ry other things befoe IVF I'd recommend this book.
