Valium - anyone had any experience?

Don't seem able to function properly, and keep wanting to sleep.

I was given it once for a flight (supposed to calm my nerves!)

All it did was make me very sleepy but I still had an active brain so I spent the whole flight in panic but my body was too sleepy to do anything other than sit in the seat!

It's a tranquiliser so I guess it relaxes your muscles and calms you down but all it did for me was make me v sleepy.

Had it as a pre-med once, must have worked as I remember thinking I don't give a "flying mionkeys" abut what they were going to do!

its a muscle relaxant - often given for muscles spasms too - for those of us old enough to remember the rolling stones, it is "mothers little helper" which they refer to in one of their songs - got its name from the fact that gps used to practically give it away in the 50s and 60s to frustrated/upset housewives to calm them down and keep them hoovering (instead of standing up for their rights) - ooo, i seem to have gone off on a tangent - ooops

why do you ask about it?

ps for me, it was like being stuck under water - not overly pleasant - could see what was going on, but couldn't quite make anything out

Well I phoned my GP and told her they were making me feel whoozy. She asked what I'd been prescribed - I told her 100mg every two hours, two which her answer was 'Blimey, no wonder you're feeling whoozy.' So she 'phoned up the psychiatrist and he told me to stop taking them now. Phew!

wow! what a dose! i've seen 50mg before bedtime (and that's to go to sleep) - gee, you must have been struggling to function

Thank you for your kind words, Koala! My dear, dear friend offered to stay the whole day with me yesterday, and I kept falling asleep on her every hour. And when she brought the girls back from school, in their uniform, my first thought was 'Christ, I haven't made their lunchboxes yet!' It's only been 4 hours since I've stopped taking them, but I feel loads better already [smile}

they are tranquilisers and do make you sleepy.Half of the old biddies in Ireland when I was growing up were like suppliers and used to hand them out to each other like sweets

I was given a valium tablet when I had laser eye surgery. An important part of healing is that you keep your eyes closed for several hours right after the surgery. I can't say I noticed anything though - it was unfortunate that the road outside my house was being attacked by pneumatic drills at the time - but there were no negative side effects.

I think it can be quite addictive - would be nervous about taking it unless there was no choice!

I took 2mg last night (for my bad back) and felt totally zonked

I was given one 5mg pill for the flight ( a few years ago) and I could hardly stand.

I just looked it up (on the internet, so very unscientific!) and it said normal daily dose was 6 to 30 mg

stay well clear ITS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE you be physically addicted in as little as two weeks after that you wont be able to sleep without it youll be begging your doctor for a few more and you could end up taking it for a lot longer time than you intended
get yourself round to holland and barret or you local health food shops and get something non addictive to calm your nerves(like calms ,quietlife or even valerian ) but im urging you to flush that valium now
100 mg is an EXTORTIONATE amount i was first perscibed 15 per day and it only took 2 weeks for me to need them to sleep(addicted) then i was given 2 mg tablets
100 mgs is a very high dose i would get a second poinion fast -as most doctors wont even perscribe valium anymore because it is so highly addictive

is it def 100 mg and not 10mg

I took 10mg three times a day as a muscle relaxant to treat severe back pain. Dh had to take time off work as I wasn't fit to look after the kids.

I took it for a week and stoped with no problems whatseoever

100 mg is a whopping doose thgough isnt in hmb
really dont think it would take long to get dependant on that much

It is a high dose. I'm not sure what the data show about dependencey and dose. I do know that with other psychotropic drugs dependency is often due to longer term use

valium is phsically addictive and highly addictive for sure think its fairly rare a gp perscribes it these days

luna, it was definately 2x50mg tablets every two hours.
