Can betablockers cause problems?

This has been in my mind for a while now, i am on betablockers to prevent migraine. I am on the 80mg halfbeta propananol, but the last couple of months i have been having palpatations, but my heartbeat sounds odd, like grisly (sp?) that is the only way to describe it. I hear it mainly when i am in bed, or sat down.

I also feel my heart flutter sometimes, like the feeling when you have a fright and it jiggles, and i have been experiencing a bit of tightness on the left side of my chest, mainly when i am stressed out, not often but still there sometimes. I feel exhausted most of the time, but i put this down to something else but could be linked i guess.

I never had any of this before, i have been on the betablockers for a couple of years, but this has started in the last couple of months could this be side effects?

Thanks

Sounds odd, because I used to be on propanalol for my overactive thyroid to stop my palpitations! I don't think it's a side effect, don't worry too much, just check with your doctor. Have you had a bad cold/virus recently? That can give you palpitations, they do go away.

No not had anything like that, i did have a kidney infection and was on AB's, but this with my heart has been happening well before that, def a mystery, will go see my G.P in the morning.

Thanks Skiptomylou
