Lost coil threads, eek!

I've had the Mirena coil for nearly 2 years. After sex yesterday DH said he didn't feel the string like he normally does, so I had a fish around (as you do ) and neither could I.

The questions is, what happens now. I#m going to go to the GP this week but how does they get it out now?

go to the GP and they can send you for a gynae ultrasound to see if it is in place still, or they might have a fish around too!

hmm. i have to go for my 6 week check with the mirena tomorrow. i've NEVER been able to feel the threads (nor can dh!) - the dr who fitted it said they would naturally coil themselves up around the cervix? maybe that's what's happened?

i'm assuming mine's still in there...

Oh God.
I'm sick and tired of people faffing around up there. After two children I would like to reclaim my vagina as mine. No such luck.

Thanks for your posts. I'll grit my teeth tomorrow and call the GP

I had the same with my Mirena a few weeks ago.

I had an ultrasound which confirmed it is still in but the threads must have gone into my womb. Apparently I can just leave it there until it is due to be changed

Have a feeling it will be a daycase op to get it out when the time comes though

as i'm sure you were all wondering, even though i am not the OP ...mine is still well and truly there threads nicely coiled. at threads vanishing into womb though!

JackBauer · 30/11/2009 19:27

I have never been able to feel the coils but went for a smear the other day and the nurse couldn't see it.
Major panic.

Luckily I am definately NOT pregnant (period started a week latre, thus scuppering pre booked appt for dr to have a rummage) and have another appt on wednesday for her to search.

I am not looking forward to it!
