Can anyone please recommend a very good cardio vascular specialist in the London or ideally Essex area. My gp has referred but did n't know the name of one??? I want to ensure a good one particularly as we are paying and can therefore choose one. Many thanks

London Heart hospital are good, as is Brompton. Your mum has peripheral vascular disease, so she may need to see a vascular surgeon.

I can't find a vascular surgeon. Can find a cardiologist or a general surgeon who does vascular work as part of other things (including circumcision and varicose veins that put me off a bit as seemed a bit general) but not a vascular surgeon per se.

Is this very serious? It sounds like it is but go very blase about it and I am very concerned.

Try the John Radcliffe in Oxford.

Angina of the legs? Do/can you die - i.e. is it symptom of bigger issues and of your circulation system packing up?

Oxford is too far really but thnak you anyway.

We really need the name of a surgeon rather then that of a whole hospital if anyone has someone they recommend.

Thanks everyone.

Thank you very much.

Here is a bit more info on claudication

I cannot help with name of a specialist as I live in the sticks .
As Highlander said, it sounds like your mum needs a vascular surgeon, not a cardiovascular guy. Most vascular surgeons are general surgeons who have a vascular subspecialisation. A lot of NHS surgeons also do private work which can be an advantage if things get too complicated for the private sector.

Sorry, I cannot be more specific. Good luck to your mum.
