Hi, i had my 22 week scan 10 weeks ago and was told everything was normal apart from the fact the baby has 'renal pelvic dilation' 7mm on both sides, i have just had my 32 week check up for this and it is showing the left kidney at 10mm and the other around the same, i have posted this thread in another discussion, but its niggling me and im getting a bit worried about implications of this being worse on one side! has anyone else had this and if so what happened??? any advice will be very much appriciated. thanks for your replys in advance! xx

Is the amount of amniotic fluid normal? Have they excluded posterior urethral valves?

Dilated pelvicalcyceaml systems etected pre-natally in most cases are not asscoaited with abnormalities after birth but htey can be. So I would ask them what exactly there plans are? specifically are they plannign or referring to paediatric nephrology after birth for assessment.

This was picked up at my 20-wk scan, and because of that and the presence of another soft marker, I ended up having an amnio. All was clear.

I had to bring my baby in for a followup scan when he was a few weeks old, and the problem had resolved itself.

AFAIU it's incredibly common, it really is, and in the vast majority of cases has no implications at all.

hi guys! saw doctor today, however the fetal specialist had been called away urgently, so have further appointment booked for next week,(bp was taken, urine checked and babys heart listened to, all good) although he didnt scan me, he had a discussion with the midwife who did the 32 week scan, he said fluid was normal and everything else was showing normal!!!!!!!!! however he was unable to answer any other questions, will see what happens next week. i am still worried about the increase in size, again any knowledge is much appriciated.

Some good signs there. I am afraid it is difficult to reassure you more without knowing specifics but there is a significant possbility of the post-natal scan being ok and even if it isn't it may not be of importance. Sometimes people have ' baggy' drainage to their kidneys without there being any consequences to this.

Goodluck and thanks for the update.
