Extra breast screening

I recently had my first screen in a mobile unit at our local supermarket. This morning I got a letter asking me to go to the proper breast screening unit for more tests.

Can anyone tell me more about this? (and what my chances of anything horrid being found are? you know, 2:1 type of thing or %).

Thanks.

In the vast majority of cases, recall from mobile screening units are because they just haven't got a good picture. It's really hard to take good mammograms as they are looking for things less than a millimetre in size and which are quite subtle, and of course on the mobile units the radiographers can't check the images before they let you go.

About 10% of women overall are recalled after screening, and less than 1% of women overall have a breast cancer of some type found.

That's great CMOT, thank you so much. Exactly what I wanted to know.

Glad it helps. I should also say that you are most likely to be recalled on your first screen as you can have 'normal for you' calcifications, cysts, fatty lumps, that once checked out are noted and in the future won't need checking unless they change

I forgot to go! It was yesterday, 2 days after my bro's funeral and the day after we got back from London. I was so knackered I couldn't even get up! DH phoned them and apologised. They were very kind. I shall make another appointment as now I have NO FEAR!!

Thanks.
